God springs forth from the primitive limbic system of your brain, the last remnants of your reptillion past. The area where our raw emotions reside, including the irrational belief systems.
The 'religious' experience is triggered by deep depression, starvation, near death, or other highly charged situations. The 'born-again' christian phenomena has a scientific basis....yes, your limbic system. Why has man evolved this mechanism you might ask? Simple...it was a survival mechanism of our cave man ancestors to cope with a hostile and unknown universe.
The cerebral cortex is a more recent development. Here is where our rational and logical thought processes take place. It is here that the atheists have found their basis in reality.
In reality, there is no sentient, omnipresent, omnipotent supernatural being or force....therefore all the inequities and misery of the world will always persist, no matter how hard some try to get that limbic brain of ours to work...sorry

This question's answer will vary depending on a persons religion. My opinion......God is a fictional character. The bible was written by many different people in many different time periods. When the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, the Vaticant Church decided to leave books out of the bible because they contradicted other stories in the book, and some parts seemed "too far-fetched" The bible undoubtedly gives people a good set of morals and standards to live by, but....none the less, its a book of stories. Me and a hundred friends could get together and write about how everything was created and how its all going to end, just because its written, doesnt make it true. If you read the book of Revelations, it tells of the worlds end, but the fact is, if a meteor the size of Texas (which isnt that big in comparrison to the world) falls into the ocean, mankind would be wiped off the face of the planet. We'd all be dead. No seven angels blowing seven trumpets, no mark of a beast, ect. If you want to learn of God, read the bible, then decide for yourself if you believe. I believe in science. I was severly injured from falling off a roof, many people prayed for me to be "healed" And honestly I prayed for it too, I would get severe pain in my back and neck, migrane headaches that make me vomit and see double. God did nothing for me, doctors and many hours of physical therapy did. So now when someone is at my doorstep, bible in hand, I tell them not to waste thier breathe, if there is a God, he is a mean kid with a magnifying glass, and we're his own private ant farm. But thats just my opinion.

In a milder definition of God, I would describe him as :
G for Generator (Creator)
O for Operator (Who runs the show, the director)
D for Destructor (Who has power to destroy evils)
The soul that can create, perserve through operations and
destroy when the time comes is the God.
the one who creates, operates and destroys is the God
In a super fine definition I would like to describe the God as :
God the one and the only witness of the entire creation and beyond,
knowledgable of all and has all the wisdom,
the world runs as per his desires
though he does not have to use his own energy or rather power to run the world or make changes to the shows being played on this world stage,
his will itself is enough for that
is the God
the one and the only, the utlimate truth that is imperishable, eternal and devoid of any changes or free from the effect of time and free from any possibility of adultration and free from getting stale
is the God
The God is eternal, The god is beyond the discussion of being with forms or formless, the God is the unthinkable
all powerful, full of happiness and the source of happiness,
eternal, unthinkable, unchangeable, ever fresh with joy, full of consciousness that can only describe the god, in front of him any other lifeform's consciousness looks primitive or tiny or dwarf
he is full of goodness, most of his goodness many don't even understand
... yes words are limited to express what or who the God is
But that is the God
It may be said that the God runs this world as per his divine law of justice and through his will which is the Divine will of the God
World's stage show is only a fraction of his divine show that is being played over here. In fact the one that exists is the God
Since God exists so do we exist
but our existence is dependent on the God and definitly not the other way around
a simple logical deduction from the above statements is :
No matter how much any mortal or a living being expands his consciousness, he will only be a dwarf in front of the Great, the God, the Lord himself
God comes down at least 10 times to the earth though never with his full force since he loves all earthlings
God comes down only as a substratum, a fratction and plays incognito with us. He plays with us living beings to show us the right path, that leads the selected few, the graced ones, the blessed ones towards him
he may plead with someone, he may cajole, he may teach, he may direct, he may discuss, he may love or he may administer mild punishments
but only
with 1 purpose in the back of his mind
to bring us closer to him, the God the Lord
Who can understand the divine play of the God, the unthinkable ?
Noone since he is known as unthinkable, which means he and his works are beyond imaginations !

I like John Lennon's definition the best. God is a concept by which we measure our pain. In other words, the more pain we are in, the more real God is to us. Smart man that John Lennon. Pax - C
He is the ONE who created you and all of this universe. He has embeded in you all the powers that are in HIM and put you in this world. If you are his true follower HE will always be with you and guide you and fill you with joy and peace. He is like a kind father.......he will forgive you. So think of HIM, pray a lot

GOD is a facile lie. Truths need not be believable, they merely self-consistently exist. Lies must be believable. Consequently, lies are usually much more believable than the truth.
Hindus have 30 crores of gods - 300 million deities. How is India doing? In the whole of human history across the entire planet not one deity has volunteered Novocain. It is a telling omission.
Yahweh is singularly disinterested in human suffering other than to inflict it. Let God establish His dominion of poverty, hunger, disease, filth, death, and silk-clad priests with whips. Every priest says, "Hodie mihi, cras tibi." Only a fool believes in post-mortem escrow closing. Live your own life, for you will die your own death.
GOD is is footnotes and Accounts Receivable.

this is a very delicate question...there are many people who would describe god as a white male man.
some would say a "spirit"
the truth is... no one know who(or what) god is.
My opinion:
People fear what they do not understand, God was created as a way of putting the reasons that we're here into a better understanding. Don't get me wrong, I believe in god full well, or more of a higher spirit, but I think he was "discovered" to make people have a way to explain the universe an cosmos.
In simpler words... so that people don't have to figure out everything behind evolution. They already "know" why we are here. "To Live our life and be guided by god"
That is my take

God is all that represents good. God is everywhere. God represents Light, Love, Compassion, Happiness, and Understanding.
I have read most of the post on here and knowing that everyone has a right to there own expression, I have to add that I am also a survivor of a near FATAL auto accident, That all rights I should be deceased right now. I owe everything to God for seeing me through my ordeal. I have something to say in regards to those who think God doesn't exists, because they think that God didn't answer their prayers. THERE ARE REASONS FOR EVERYTHING. God allows us to endure hardships so that it can build us stronger as a person, in faith and in spirit. But as a christian it is not to ask God why. But to realize for ourselves that everything has reason. Look what happened to Job...! He had EVERYTHING taken from him and it was all to test his faith.
Someone also said that the bible is a bunch of made up stories. Even if they were, would it make better sense to live by what was written in there and have some guidelines to live by, and raise your family by, Just in case you happen to be wrong? I think it is far better to be prepared than not!

What is GOD ? or who is GOD ?
GOD is just the creation of the human mind's inability to accept the unknown.Early man worshipped forests, water, fire etc because all these were unknown or beyond his comprehension. People in modern times still cannot understand the true nature of the universe or even of the Earth.Hence the belief of a universal power called GOD .True understanding of science leads us to the truth that GOD as such or as thought of by the people (through religions and idol worship) doesnt exist.
Understanding the inner self will reveal that you yourself is the GOD and every person has the GOD hidden in him .The GOD i refer in this paragraph is not the GOD found in scriptures and ancient texts.GOD is the power u exercise on your mind, your ability to take control over your mind

Definition of God (based on faith only)
God is defined as a cosmic consciousness capable of living without a physical body, outside reality, capable of thinking and planning without the need of a physical brain, yet capable of feeling love and compassion for its creation, which came into being by violating the very specific laws of the universe such as physics, chemistry, and biology that make the universe intelligible. God created a universe which operates consistently by these laws, except God is the only entity who does not have to obey them.
I tried to pack in this absolutely correct definition of the Almighty as many contradictions as I could see, but each contradiction brings about a whole new host of contradictions of its own kind! What exactly did God have in mind? If my small brain can see shortcomings, can He not see them also? Or should I believe that diseases and hurricanes are just examples of PERFECTION, one shouldn't have to try to avoid?
One should really worry about the morality of those who worship sacrifice. I can't think of anything more twisted and sick than erecting multi-million dollar churches to worship someone who was sent on earth for the specific purpose of being tortured and crucified so that people should continue to live among diseases, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, wars and a good dosage of idiots who can't think, but who are very good at stirring up hatred. Is that the best plan God could come up with? What a thinker!
It certainly isn't thanks to God that we have science and technology today. If it wasn't for those lovers of truth, intelligent humans -- I mean explorers, philosophers, and scientists -- who recognized in reason the only power we have against the brutality of nature and with our rational minds the power for distinguishing reality from fantasy, we would still be living in caves!
