What is happening to my country? I love U.S.A. but I am horrified at what might become of the land of the free. I had a buddy of mine who is strong right winger tell me the other day in a conversation that he would surrender his civil rights if it meant getting the bad guys (al quaida) out of our country.
NOOOO!!!!
Someone please tell me that he is just a nut and that Americans in general still believe in freedom and unalienable rights.

I am a right-wing nut myself, but I am not going to give up my rights for "safety".

I have no problems with security at the airport, even tapping international phone calls that someone makes to known terrorists, but I am not goving up my freedom in the name of safety.

There has to be some amount of give and take, but we can not give the government free-reign to do whatever they want in the name of safety.

These satan worshippers running Washington want to destroy the World population and bring it down to about 3 Billion people worldwide.

This Iraq war - terror and all these things they use and say are just power grabs to take away your civil rights. The erosion and destruction of the Constitution is the main goal for America.

All this for a secret societies world plans.

The World Bank is the center for the operation

And if you don't think they manufactured and staged 9/11, all you have to do is Google: Operation Northwoods to see that this plan was thought up decades ago.

Hell - in 1976 and in Europe - the military and DoD had a breifing where they discussed terrorists using box cutters to take over commercial flights and use the planes as weapons flying into high profile U.S. targets.

Guess who was at that meeting -
who else but George H.W.Bush

Read the links - inform yourselves

Don't listen to the GOP Yahoo Answer trolls about the Prison Planet link - They know that site will aid in their downfall because they actually show the truth!
What a surprise.

If your buddy is a right winger then he is either an old fart or he is a member of a group known in Italy as Fascists, in Germany as National Socialists, and in Russia as Bolsheviks early in the last century. The central fact of these groups is not the flavor of their politics as in left or right wing, but the fact that the majority of the people who belonged were willing to give up freedom for security. They got neither. I on the other hand am labeled very right wing because I want King Log government not King Stork and my politics are those of a flaming radical. I believe that government should not try to keep us safe from every little thing. IE seat belt laws, interstate speed limits, etc. However, all hospitals facilities should either be owned by local or county government and be run in a profit for maintaining and upgrades only. Staff and Doctors should be independent contractors who are allowed to make a reasonable profit but not get filthy rich. Firearms courses should be taught in fifth through twelfth grade and all students should be required to know how to care for and when and how to use firearms. All registered voters should be required to be openly armed at all times in public. Dueling should be legal and very strictly bound by law and sanctioned by custom. We should not have to house criminals. Corporal punishment for misdemeanor crime and selling the felony criminal to companies who clean superfund sites and remove unexploded ordinance around the world. Those who survive their time are free and clear with no records. CEO’s should be limited in income of any type to no more than 15 times the lowest paid individual in their company. All bonuses must be paid equally to all employees, There will be no more percentage bonuses, stock options, ETC., unless the lowest employee gets the same chance at the big money as the highest paid employee. If a cooperation out sources work then the person who made this decision must pay all taxes that were lost from these jobs out of his own pay.

PRETTY FAR OUT THERE AREN'T I?

People never want to hear it, but Americans are losing their freedoms. That is how the Nazis took over Germany, how dictators succeed in overthrowing legitimate govenments, because people keep saying, "It Can't Happen Here" [Babbitt], but it is and it does.
Look at when the Supreme Court said that property ownership is "not a sacred right" and took property from owners to give to businesses. Wal-Mart, Big Lots, all of those big corporations, if they want particular property, the government will condemn the property or use emminent domain to take the property and "give" it to the Big Business.
Or, how about: if you are old and frail and CONSIDERED unable to take care of yourself, they can FORCE you into a nursing home (it happened to both of my parents).
There used to be prayer in school; before home owners associations, yards were mostly clean and neat. Now people don't care; the associations want to run things their way, owners no longer have any home owner rights.
It has been in the news over and over (CBS, NBC, etc.) that people would prefer to have fewer rights so the government can take care of them.
That's what the Democratic party is all about: taking care of (controlling) people from cradle to grave. That's what it means to be a liberal.
If you can find an older person to ask, one who can still remember "the good old days", ask about the rights that have disappeared.
There is little difference between the U.S. now and Communist countries.

penitentiary is penitentiary, u.s. is loose very nicely, yet endure in techniques some human beings bypass to a techniques with that freedom, so as that they are going to be jailed greater. ideally, we are no longer the land of the loose, we are the international police, the flag that we revere in the placement of delivery is seen as an emblem of outrage and tyranny to all who're no longer American. This land of the loose became built on the backs of slaves. We acclaim our lifestyle is the excellent, and hence all else follows at the back of us. Freedom combatants are no longer Leaders. freedom combatants are constantly the audio equipment, the advocates, the rebels. Freedom isn't attainable. no longer even in u.s.. Dont be fooled. human beings are loose to do what they are going to, yet no person else can savor the comparable freedom human beings savor, and as long as this cultural and militant 'empire' exists, human beings will constantly be tyrants hiding at the back of a flag they acclaim to be an emblem of freedom.

Well, you should know that our freedoms are under assault. But, it is not so much a Right Wing vs. Left Wing sort of thing.

Take for example smoking bans. Members of both political parties are on board (and you may very well be as well).

The issue has been obfuscated by clouding the issue as one between the smoker vs. the non-smoker. The reality is this in the furthest thing from what the issue is about.

The issue is about a PRIVATE business owner having the right and freedom to determine what sort of clients he wants to cater to (mind you tobacco is a legal product).

With respect to private property, you have government utilizing eminent domain and wet land protection (to such an egregious extent that a mere pond is deemed a wetland) for the sake of taking away private property.

Now, you've got some government officials calling for reinstating the Fairness Doctrine and controlling what content is broadcasted.

So, you see, our liberties and freedoms are under assault on many levels and I urge you to stand for freedom and liberty above all else (EVEN IF IT MEANS THAT YOU HAVE TO BE SUBJECTED TO SMOKING IN A BAR/RESTAURANT).

But, to get back to your point, civil rights need not be forgotten or thrown out the window to "save us from bad people". There does however need to be a sensible approach to how we do this. We should not round up every American and throw them in jail until they can prove they are not a terrorist. Nor should the NSA eavesdrop on American citizens' phone calls. HOWEVER, should they [the NSA] be allowed to collect phone records to establish patterns of numbers?? Absolutely. It's information that the phone company already has. If in reviewing this information they see alot of phone calls between numbers that draw some questionability then they should act on that.

Additionally, when we talk about civil rights and not rushing to criminalize every American citizen, we should put our political affiliation aside (if only momentarily). The recent Scooter Libby trial, the Duke Lacrosse trial, are clear evidence of over zealous prosecutors that also trample on civil liberties. Criminalizing individuals by way of over zealous prosecutors out to make a killing based on contingency fees should frighten the hell out of all of us. If a man can be sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for lying about a crime that didn't occur (Valerie Plame's CIA position was not covered under the Intelligence Identities Protection Act and therefore her being "outed" as a CIA worker was not a crime. Hence, no one was charged with "outing" her) then what's to stop you from being hauled into a court room, thrown on the stand and being questioned about irrelevant questions in an effort to trip you up, charge you perjury, and then lock you up in prison????

if you don't like it leave, don't complain when there is another terrorist attack. I will for sure let them go through my mail, read my email, and tap my phone if it will prevent anything from happening. Anyway what do you care, if your not doing anything wrong who cares if they look into you. Most of the time you probably won't even know that they are listening to you or reading your email. Who cares if a guy in d.c. knows i bought porn or something. It is nothing and if it will help us then do it. Its funny how people will say bush is bad because he go along with stem cell, but people like you don't want your phones tapped and things like because they are violating your right. Like the stem cell research it doesn't affect us. Who cares let them do stem cell research, let them tap our phones and email. Who cares it doesn't affect us, people who are against all of the information the government are dumb. It doesn't hurt you, its not like they print everyone info. What is a guy in dc going to do with info he can't tell anyone about. even if he knows the most embarrassing thing, the only people who would know are him you and who you told. Who cares, and if you don't want it our there then don't say it.

When we give up a little of the freedom we have, we take the first step down the path to tyranny. Thank god we live in this country! It's leaders can suck sometimes, but it is still free.

There's always been a conflict between schools of thought: those that believe individual liberties are critical and must be protected at all costs even at risk to the whole, and those that believe that liberty of the nation as a whole is critical and must be protected at all costs even at risk to the individual.

We already have given up some of our civil liberties. Just because the patriot act has a nice name doesn't mean it's good.
