Sorry but I feel the need to educate Gary about FWD cars. Why can a FWD car not be a "real car"? I'm a Dodge fan and have been for some time -- look up any of the 80s/90s Dodge Turbo cars for one (does the name Carroll Shelby mean anything to you? -- if it does look up Shelby Dodge, then comment again about 'real cars')
I know this doesn't help your answer about doing burnouts in an automatic trans car -- but I just get irritated when the "me big muscle car... me need a big v8 ... you little man" mentallity tries to speak about things they don't know.

First you put your foot on the brake, then you drop it into low gear. Hit the gas while doing that barely let off the brake where you just move the wheels will start to turn and smoke. Don't forget to shift to 2nd and 3rd gears as you rev to higher rpms. THIS MY FRIEND IS KNOWN AS POWER BRAKING.

Get the right automatic and you can burn out all day long. Some cars come with traction control that will prevent wheelspin when you floor it . either disable that or work with what you got

I wouldn't recommend it.
(but I used to rev my engine in neutral and then throw it into drive - takes a few times before the transmission drops out)

Keep your foot on the brake, rev the engine, dump the brakes. Best know how to steer it while burning out!

All or some of the above recommendations will work but I would have to agree with Joe and Glenners. With the high cost of gasoline, tires, and the impending transmission replacement you will endure, not to mention the danger you put yourself and anyone else on the road in...why? Mom will kill you if you destroy her mini-van.

you could throw it into neutral as someone suggested but that ***** up your transmission
best bet is foot on the brake and the gas then let go of the brake

come to a complete stop, then floor the gas pedal. it will help if you are pointed uphill, on wet pavement, or turning, but many automatics just don't have the power to peel out.

If you have a real car and not some FWD piece of junk. Just floor it. If that doesn't work you don't have enough power.
