What is the best response when someone makes fun of you or laughs at you? Should you laugh it off, totally ignore it, or say some snappy comeback?

Different situations, call for a different responses. If someone, like a friend, is just making a joke; that is ok to just laugh off. If someone, like a jerk, or stranger, feels the need to make fun of you most times it's best to just shrug it off. I mean suppose you make a comment back and the tables turn and everyone starts laughing at that person, they could become embarassed and then try to hurt you or something. Think about it this way, most people make fun of others because they really don't like themselves very much. So to divert the attention away from themselves and their own shortcomings, they target someone else. Usually a person who is smaller, younger or not too intimidating to them. This is their way of making themselves feel better. But if in a case where the person is someone you know who is just trying to make people laugh at your expense a comeback is sometime definitely in order, just make sure it's something good, but use discretion when deciding who to ignore and who to comment back to. Personally, I just ignore those kinds of people and stay away from them. All the best.

It depends on the situation. If I fall and hurt myself and someone laughs my first instinct is to scream at them to shut the f*ck up. If I have toilet paper stuck to my shoe and someone laughs I usually laugh to and make a joke about myself. If someone is just an idiot and laughs at me just to be a jerk I usually come back with something snappy like, "you must be real impressed with yourself huh genius!"

You could ignore it first, then laugh it off, and after laughing it off and they don't stop, redirect their attention to something else or ask them a question about something totally different to engage their mind, like directions.

Try to ignore it or try not to slash their tires.
