Maybe. But expats (read: British) were warned to leave the area on June 8, according to the article.
"The girl's abduction is the third child kidnapping this year, according to local media.
Britain advised all its nationals on June 8 to leave three core states in the Niger Delta because of rising insecurity, including Rivers State, where Port Harcourt is located."
Perhaps the world is getting tired of imperialist behavior, though. Why are Nigerians desperately poor, when oil from their ancestral homeland enriches British Petroleum and the corrupt officials they employ?

they raised that money to find THEIR own daughter there are plenty of people with a lot more money in this world who could pay the ransom also the average ranson demand in nigeria is £1.5 million so to help theyd have to give up all of maddys fund and it still wouldnt be enough

My thoughts too .... i doubt it will happen though which is a shame as when ransoms were paid the victim has been released by these people and the quicker she is released the less psychological damage .. keeping my fingers crossed

Last time I heard about this was they wanted to swop the daughter for the husband ?? My husband my child mmmmmm now let me think. The McCanns are not intrested hun.

I heard on the news that although kidnappings in that area are rising, this family don't have much money and the Dad works/runs the local pub. They appear to be confused as to why they want him.
Shame on them, poor little kid must be terrified.
Hope she comes home safe.

It would be a nice thought if they at least offered, after all, weren't they supposedly intending to use some of the money to pay for "information" about madeleine?

i dont think ransoms should be paid as they only encourage other kidnappings, however i would like to see the money been used for what it was intended to, and a detailed account of it in gerrys blog
