JK Rowling just announced that "scar" did not end up being the last word of Deathly Hallows (although she says the word is in there near the end).

How do you think the word "scar" will be significant, even if it's not the last word? Will Harry's scar somehow disappear when Voldemort is vanquished? Will someone else get a scar? 10 points to my favorite theory!

I think the fact that the word 'scar' will be in the last few lines is significant. If Harry dies, it's very unlikely people will be reminiscing about his scar, they will be talking about him being a hero or grieving for him. So talking about the word 'scar' can only mean that people are discussing his scar in a positive way, ie because he's alive, (because it's no longer significant if he dies)

Regarding whether his scar disappears or not, I doubt that would happen. I agree with the theory that the scar resulted from Voldemort's failed attempt to make Harry into a Horcrux. If he'd been successful, Voldewmort's soul would have destroyed Harry's soul, as two souls can't live in the same body. Since we know that Harry has a whole and untarnished soul, but Voldemort's soul left him when his spell failed, the scar is the physical remnant of the Horcrux creating spell. Therefore the scar contained Voldemort's soul. I agree with the theory that this part of Voldemort's soul returned to his body when he used Harry in his regeneration spell at the end of GOF. So the piece of soul contained in the scar has already left Harry's body, but he still has the scar, therefore I don't think anything more powerful can happen to remove the scar.

I think the conclusion in the book will be along the lines of that while they celebrate the fact that Harry has vanquished Voldemort, they can't just become complacent that evil has gone forever. The scar is a reminder that evil exists and our only choice is to fight it or it will consume us. I think that's a good moral conclusion to JK Rowling's moral message in the books. I'm sure she'll throw in something about the all-conquering power of love too!

Harry's Magical Scar

It would be nice if Harry does end up surviving, but I would like to see his scar disappear as well. It's kinda obvious here and there that he's tired of being "the boy who lived" and it's always his scar that's stirring up the attention he doesn't want.

So...let's say he does vanquish the Dark Lord. If the cursed scar disappears, he can live the "normal" (for lack of better words) life he always wanted. lol.

Also, his scar's always been an indicator of danger from Voldemort. After he's gone, the scar's kinda useless so it may eventually heal. Now that I think about it....the healing of the scar could be a parallel to Harry emotionally healing after Voldemort is vanquished....ahh! I'm drifting off! Anyways, that's my two cents right there!

You can't just get rid of a scar. You can make it fade over time or get a skin graft but that would still leave scars. But I always thought that maybe the scar would magically disappear after Voldemort died. Maybe at the end, Harry will be rubbing his scar, remembering the last battle or something.

Well once he destroys Voldemort it wont hurt anymore will it?
Maybe it will fade away a little bit. I doubt it will go away all the way but maybe just fade a bit. I don't know.

I really don't think Harry will die so it'll just be something on how the pain of the scar eases with Voldy gone.

I think Deathly Hallow needs a happy ending after the ending of OotP (sirius dieing *tear*) and HBP(Dumbeldore...)
it needs something to make us smile.
How about Harry's scar stops hurting all together and it fades a little. Tonks and Remus get married...and Hermione and Ron and Harry and Ginny hook up for good. :)

you know what a very big question i have! how many people are going to flip to the end of the book the second they get it just to see what the last word is??

i understand it is cool to know what the last word is, but i sort of had a feeling that the last word was going to change, JK Rowling said there was a total possiblity that the last word might change. no one will know if Harrys scar dissapears, or what the last word is, or if someone else gets a scar until the last book comes out!!!! 2 WEEKS!!!

Everyone says the scar will go away, but I don't believe that. Harry will have that scar forever and it is the mark of Lily's love for him.

"SCAR" would have to be Harry's, ... or if not, a fresh scar of someone Harry saved, like Ginny. Whenever she sees her scar, she remembers the Boy who lived ... who lives no more.

harry's scar is that horecrux thing and is contains the power to destroy Voldi. but the scar will be there the rest of his life being a pain on the forehead. i have also heard that voldi will become trapped inside of harry's scar and harry will lose all his wizard powers, forget everything, become a muggle, and the scar will be the only thing of his past.

I think in the end Harry will come to terms with who he is and his scar. And stop seeing his scar as something Voldemort gave him but instead as something from him mum.
