It only happens at certain places though. When I am at a certain friends' house it does it. It also does it when I visit my parents. But all the other times it says its connected.

I AM CONNECTED though. It just says that I am not. I can surf the internet, etc. fine it just says I am not connected.

cause there is either no wireless access (no hotspot) or the wireless service in that location has security turned on and you don't have the security configured.
When you get the limited connection message that usually means that the pc couldn't obtain an IP address.

One interpretation is that the computer is answering a direct question and that is there is no literal or physical or obvious cable connection but a syncrhronosty of wireless frequency.
