On a serious note, without all the typical craziness that this site stirs, I have this question:
I am on the West coast so I don't get to see much of the NY local news articles or get the word on the street concerning Giambi and his relationship with the Yankee organization and the fans. With the on going steroid issues with Giambi, is he still embraced by the Yankee fans? If he is, is this because of the numbers that he puts up? I'm sure that he is frequently boo'd when out of town. Like Bonds, loved at home hated on the road. I am just curious as to the feelings with Yankee fans on this issue.
Thanks-

Cheese- Ok about Giambi, but isn't Damon a fan favorite? Would he be missed?

I suppose a lot of the neutral feelings has to do with Giambi bringing this baggage to NY from somewhere else. He's not really a true blue Yankee.

As a Yankee fan living in NYC, I can tell you that Giambi remains a popular figure in New York despite the steroid scandal and the increasingly diminished returns on the Yankees investment in him. His slumps are generally taken in stride by the local tabloid media, unlike say A-Rod, who is continually criticized and monitored under a microscope. His popularity waned a few years back when he missed most of a season with injuries, but the way he battled back to become a force to be reckoned with again, did a lot to endear him with the fans. He's been out so long this year with a foot injury that it will be interesting to see how he's greeted upon his return (whenever that turns to be).

Giambi hasnt really been talked about. I have been watching all the yankee games and have rarely heard about giambi. A lot of the yankee fans dont really care if giambi comes back and plays for the yankees. To be honest i thnk giambi has been a big distraction ever since he came along. he has a big mouth. I am a big yankee fan and i almost forgot about giambi. I would be surprised if giambi would be on the yankees next year.

Yankee fans embrace winners and have a problem with players not performing up to their expectations. The fact is that Giambi has not produced in New York and is only hitting about .260 during the past five years. If the Yankees were winning it would be a different story but I can assure you that Giambi is not on the list of favorite players of most yankee fans.

Bonds and Giambi are in different catagories. Bonds has typically been a less than stellar person his whole career so with his scandals, his critics like to pile drive that on top of him. Giambi hasn't exactly been a glowing personality his career, but he's not a bad person.

Yankees fans will root for Giambi if he hits well and tear him apart when he doesn't. Just like they would every other non-Jeter Yankee.

Well Giambi will come back as soon as he settles with the MLB comissioner about the steroids scandal. Personally i think we need to realease Giambi and trade Damon and Abreu because both of them are past their prime
