Ok, I live in Hawaii (for about one month) and it is really hot. I am foruteen and I have a below the knee amputation on my left leg. So this morning I noticed that my "stump" was swollen and then I could not fit it into my prosthetic. Should I consider getting a new one, or go without it for a couple of days? Also what could be making my leg swell??

The heat can cause swelling, I would try ice, elevation, and ibuprofen, and if it doesn't get better I would go see a doctor.

how long has it been since your surgery and are you wearing your shrinker socks like you are supposed to? you may need to increase the compression of your socks. Have you gotten any pressure sores from your prosthetic? if so you may have a bit of an infection. maybe sleep with your "stump" elevated so as to ward off swelling. try increasing your compression first and wear it as long as you can tolerate. since you are 14 it may be that you are growing out of your prosthesis. anyway i'd go see your doc. you know as well as anyone that if something funny is going on with you "stump" it's not worth waiting around to see what happens. The health of your amputated leg is always at risk. stay on top of it.
OH, are you getting up and walking around as much as you should to help combat the swelling...you said it's hot there..are you staying inside and sitting all day playing PS2? you may just need to get up and walk on it more. GOOD LUCK and have fun in Hawaii..i know i could live there for a while myself! i was at hickam AFB for awhile!

heat and humidity can cause swelling. Try placing ice packs on your stump for fifteen minutes, several times a day. Advil soft gel capsules can help take down swelling. If you don't feel better after three days see a medical doctor.
