Hans von Bulow,a famous conductor in the 19th century, once said something like "There's no poor orchestra but only the poor conductor".Does anyone know the precise quotation and its source? I would appreciate very much if you could also show what he said in German, his native language.
Thank you.

I believe he said "There are two types of conductors; those with the score on their heads and those with their heads in the score".

It's interesting ..
there are a lot of variations on this theme.....

there is no such thing as a small(operatic role), there's only a small singer

there is no such thing as a stupid question, there is only a stupid answer

... I am sorry ... I don't happen to know the von Bulow quote...but I thought I'd throw in my 2- cents worth!
