I was raised in a pretty traditional household. My father instilled in me that men should work and provide for the family. My mom worked too, but my dad always had the view of a man as a breadwinner. I have no problem with working women but for some reason, men not working and living off their spouses income irritates me. Am I the only one who thinks this? Am I wrong?

I think it is narrow minded. Sometimes a mother makes more than the father. And if the couple agrees that the father become a stay-at-home dad, who's business is it anyway. Daycare is very expensive and if one parent can stay home & take care of the household while the other parent is working then it doesn't matter if it's the mom or the dad. As long as the couple agree & neither is taking advantage of the other & it's for the betterment of the family then there's no reason why one shouldn't stay home. Gender roles are pretty much obsolete today. By the way, both my husband & me work outside the home, but not by choice. We both have to work. Good luck. 2D

I think a guy should always be improving and upgrading his career skills just like a woman.

The reality of the 21st century is that women are starting to out earn men more and more. That means we will have to fit in where they ask us to. We may have to take a turn at home with the kids but eventually we'll be back out there working so we better stay on top of it.

I knew a couple where the woman was a pretty good paid engineer, and the man stayed home & took care of the kids & the household & did a fine job of it.

Strange but True. I did not look down on them, but up.
I was impressed with how well they were doing.

Both of my parents worked, doing same kind of work.

We were taught in society that the man should bring in the bread. So most of us do feel that way.
It's hard these days because some women actually make more money then their husband. With daycare being so expensive some people just decide to stay home with the kids. At times it's the man because of the wife making the most money.
I feel that my man needs to contribute too but while looking for daycare I must admit that I asked him to quit his job and stay with the kids....lol (I make more then him.)
He said hell no...so now we just have to pay for daycare.

I think it takes a very mature man to be able to stay home and raise kids. It is a tough job and there are the social aspects of it too. The majority of men need to go earn money and find their place in society because when they don't, they create trouble for themselves.

As long as the father is doing housework, what a woman staying at home would do, and taking care of kids, there should be no reason to see this as wrong. As long as both partners in that marriage agree to it!

Unfortunately we live in a world where everything is double standard, and a man staying at home taking care of his children is one of them. I know a couple man stays at home taking care of there 2 1/2 child, he knows he's colors alphabets, and speaks spainsh(The couple is Afrian-American) so if people think man are staying at home being lazy, well some are not they have a job too, they are just not getting paid for it.

It irks me too... but it's usually the men to stay at home and do nothing that irk me.

Men... or rather Fathers who stay at home to care for the children do not irk me. I think that is noble and worth commendation.

If women have been doing it for over twenty thousand years, men can finally take a crack at it.
