I have been using Depo for the last few years. I have been steadily gaining weight ever since. Could anyone tell me about any forms of birth control that were easy to use but did not cause significant weight gain? Thanks!

I use the Ortho Evra patch. It's easier than the pill because it's once per week, and in my opinion better than the pill. I had more side effects with the pill and none with the patch.

One drawback is expense, but I would not use a generic birth control. According to my doctor, generic medications in general can contain less active medication than name brand. For birth control, that could be a disaster!

Talk to your doctor about your options, every body is different. Try one and if it doesn't work, try another. Good luck!

I'm using Cyclessa pills and haven't gained weight. I was also concerned about gaining weight. My obgyn told me that with any brand of pills a woman should not gain more than 5 pounds. If she does, it's not the pills.

Try the ring. The patch gave me a little rash where it was applied.

Generic birth control is just as safe as name brand.
Any doctor who tells you otherwise is being bribed by the brand companies.

Try Mirena. Lighter or no periods, spontaneity, no pills to pop, no doctors appointments (except for the insertion). Mines is great, but you have to had already had a baby to be a candidate for Mirena. Good luck!

The new IUD. It has a local hormone (does not go to the bloodstream) that makes your period lighter and prevents fertilization and implantation. You can still be spontaneous and no pills, no patch, no shots, no ring , no "stay right there while I run to the bathroom."

Also, no monthly payment (or co-pays) and it can be removed easily.

It won't prevent STDs
