It could be implantation spotting if you have a 28 day cycle, or it could be ovulation spotting if you have a 33 day cycle. Hard to tell since you said you were irregular. When I was pregnant with my son, I had implantation spotting, and it was like what you said. I thought my period was starting, and I put a pad in, and then it never really came. After a couple days I took a test. You could always pick up an ovulation test and a pregnancy test and see if either come up positive. If the ovulation is negative, then wait a few days and take another pregnancy test. Good luck!

I would say it could be a sign that you are ovulating. Some woman who have irregular period may in fact ovulate later in a cycle, therefore delaying your period.
Because it was mixed in with cervical fluid, it still means you are fertile.
Here is an example of a typical cycle:
Day 1 your period
Soon after your period you might notice no cervical fluid.
Then an increase in cervical fluid, building up to the most fertile cervical fluid the eggwhite discharge.
A few days after you have ovulated there will be no cervical discharge.
Then right before your period you might have discharge again.
The reason that I am thinking it is ovulation is because you mentioned that you have an irregular cycle. So I don't think this could be implantation bleeding this early in your cycle.
Implantation bleeding usually happens about 10 days after ovulation.

It could well have been an implantation bleed, but more likely is either the result of recent ovulation or your body readying itself for a period.

I think most women would benefit from keeping track of their cycles and when they have sex on a calender. It helps when you think pregnancy is a possibility.

Only about 20% of women experience implantation bleeding. It could be that, or it could be from ovulating.
