I'm almost 30 weeks pregnant and this has been happening a lot lately. I am going through a HIGH RISK pregnancy right now and am trying to take care of myself the best way possible (eating enough, drinking tons of water/fluids, taking vitamins, ect which I always do on a daily basis.) But even though I do those things, I get dizzy whenever I stand for more than around thirty minutes at a time. If I do stand for more than that, the dizziness is so bad that my legs feel as though they are about to give out on me and the dizziness gets so bad that I feel like I'm going to vomit. I'm making an appointment with my doc for next week, but does anyone have any advice right now for me other than "stay off your feet"? What could be causing this? Have any of you been through this too? I feel so alone here. Please help.

I had this also while pregnant with my 3rd child (high risk) due to low blood sugar and PCOS which was diagnosed before pregnancy. sometimes it could also be the way the baby is laying on a nerve. I had to eat a little sugar when i got this way, drink lots of water and relax as much as possible. at 30 weeks you've only got 10 more weeks to go so you shouldnt be over exerting yourself more then you need to. Your a high risk pregnancy and that intales takeing lots of breaks, drinking more water, eating healthy small meals and relaxing as much as possible. You need to talk to your dr though to let them know what is going on so they can chart it. if it gets too bad they may have to induce. good luck and congrats.

I've been going through that exact same thing all throughout my pregnancy and it sucks, however I'm not high risk. My doc told me that since I'm pregnant, more blood is going down to your belly, so not as much is going to your head. Which is why it's so easy to get light headed when standing up. What would make me feel a little better is when I start to get dizzy, like when shopping, I would lean against a cart, put my head down, and just rock from side to side for a minute and drink some water. If that doesn't make me feel better, then I normally find a chair to sit in for a few minutes so that I can go back to shopping. I'm not going to let dizziness stop me from shopping!

At 14 weeks I started getting dizzy and acctualy passed out. It was caused by low bloodpressure, it might not be the same for you, but if you feel dizzy you need to sit down until it passes. I found that in the morning if I ate cereal or yogurt I would get dizzy too later in pregnancy. Maybe you could try increasing your protein intake.. I was told to move around a lot when I had to stand for long periods of time too, to shake my feet around a bit, or switch which one i was standing on. The blood pools in your feet which is what makes you dizzy. One other thing you can try is going to a pharmacy and getting your bp checked with one of those little machines after you have been standing for a bit. If you have those machines at your pharmacy.

I'm sorry I'm not speaking from personal experience, but when I was pregnant both times, the doctors had mentioned the dizziness as a concern. I do know that if you stand in one place for a period of time, it may be hard for your body to pump the blood up through you because the baby sits on those veins. My doctor advised me the further I got along to make sure not to stand stationary but to rock and move my feet, wiggle my toes, etc so that it keeps things pumping. Hang in there!

Why do you need to stand for thirty minutes at a stretch? Surely some of your kitchen tasks could be performed sitting down; and perhaps you could alternate your standing up and sitting down tasks even if this would be totally illogical in a normal situation. If you have a partner - or even an adult family member - around, they should be aware of your condition and be ready to assist you around the house. You must ask your doctor if it is really advisable to be drinking "tons" of water/fluids

i use to get dizzy too and eventually i would vomit. Some how it made me feel better. To avoid the dizzy spells i'd put a bunch of ice into a cloth and hold it on my forehead and face. if that does not work try to sit down and breath deeply. Close your eyes and breath.

Make sure when you're standing not to lock your knees. I've seen soldier's standing at attention faint for this very reason. If you can, prop one foot up on something while standing. That seemed to help me.

Ohh, I hate that. When it happened to me I found it was related to low blood sugar. During pregnancy it happens much more easer then before.

Try to rest as much as you can, there isn't really any magic cures for dizziness during pregnancy.
