are my physical neighbors going to have a similar ip address to me? we all are using sbcglobal, to the best of my knowledge.

Maybe and maybe not. It all depends which DHCP server you are obtaining your IP addresses from. Just because you all live close to each other does not mean that you get your IP addresses from the same DHCP server.

Most large networks have multiple DHCP servers in place for redundancy. If one of them crashes another one will be available to dish out IP addresses. A network as large as SBC (now AT&T) will have many, many DHCP servers and they most likely all have a different IP range that they are doling out addresses from.

YES, but the exact IP is determined by the DHCP server ,serving the IP address, you can "repair" or "renew" them ,to slightly change the address number but for the most part they will be all group in a range from 0-255,

Also,make sure your using a router for security too.

IP addresses are not always submitted by area. Sometimes ISPs will make the first unit the same for a certain feed radius, but not always depending on when your ip was created vs when theirs was

It depends upon what you mean by similar. It is very likely the first set of digits will be the same. The second set of digits may be the same. The third set of digits are possibly the same. The last set of digits cannot be the same.

as I know it, I don't think so, I'm not the expert in this but your ip address could change from time to time or situation to situation so I don't think you could have the same/simular one to your neighbor...

depends what dhcp server they obtain the lease from.
