No they do not need one, but you won't get very far nowadays without one.

Most software titles are put on CD's so you will need a CD drive to read them.

Also, most computers now do not have a 3.5" disk drive so you will have little option for inputs.

I couldn't see why they would require a CD/DVD drive to run. Unless you set your PC to boot from CD/DVD but even then if it doesn't detect it then tries the harddrive.

You just ouwldn't be able to play CD's or DVD's.

They don't have to, but you'd have a hard time installing or changing any programs without one.

If you're temporarily without a CD/DVD drive because you're waiting for a replacement, don't worry. Your computer should otherwise run fine.

PCs don't have to have a cd/dvd drive, however, without one your options for file storage, application download, system recovery, etc. become somewhat limited.

no, and if you have to run a disc you can download them in iso format and mount them as a virtual disc with a program called magic iso

It depends if you choose to buy it or not. There are no laws on what a computer should have.
