When I was kid a watched this movie that made me cry. Sean Penn was in it and it was about the military. I remember in the end they were in court and either Sean Penn was found guilty or he testified against someone. (not sure)
A sad song started playin from that scene into the credits. The gil singin sounded like Cyndi Lauper. Help!

Sean Penn was not a prisoner. I think he was in the military. This movie came out in the eighties or early nineties.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to "Casualties of War." It premiered in 1989 and is about a soldier in the Vietnam war who finds himself the outsider of his own squad when they unnecessarily kidnap, rape, and murder a female villager.

Sean Penn played the part Sgt. Tony Meserve who was in charge of the squad and masterminded the entire kidnapping plot. He was found guilty at the end of the movie.

Was it an American film, a Canadian film or some other language? Were there subtitles? Did u see it on T.V, DVD, in the theatre? Sorry, but I don't know!

im not sure but it might have been "Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam" it was done in 1987 - hope this helped!!
