I am worried too. Obama made double what any of the Republicans made so far..he definitely has a lot of supporters....now, if he can just keep the rednecks at bay.

First black president in 2008. Obama will be elected. Here's why. He is intelligent and a visionary. People who make claims about his experience at the federal level fail to realize that most elected Presidents come either from the Senate or from the governor's office. Neither of these jobs is preparation for the White House. In fact, there is no prep job for President except for maybe VP. That is it. All first term presidents have to learn on the job regardless of background. And Obama by the time he is elected will have had more political experience than GW,Bill Clinton, Reagan, Carter, or Kennedy. True White House experience, is very rare and unnecessary to do a good job.

I think Obama will be on the ticket in some way, he has far too many supporters from Democrats, Independents and Republicans alike for him not to be.
It's unfortunate that there are people still closed-minded about race in 2007. I also think enormous strides have been made in protecting the president as well.
And I find it astounding to see that people still think he lacks experience when he has years as a lawyer and constitutional law professor, 8 years in the State Senate, by the time of the election, he'll have 4 years in the Senate. Bush had 6 yrs as governor, Clinton had only one term as governor, Reagan had 8 years as governor, and on and on. Eisenhower only had military experience before becoming president. Lincoln had only 8 years in the state legislature, which makes Obama more experienced than Lincoln. But alas, Lincoln was assassinated.
Apparently, some people don't know how to read.

I love the "no experience at the federal level" garbage. You mean like the last two presidents who were governors?
Another of my favorite arguments is the "We've had a Bush or a Clinton for 27 years" misdirection. Let's not mention that the bulk of that was the Bushes (19 of 27 so far, 20 of 28 when this debacle is over). It's like saying "We've had a Bush or a Carter for 16 years!" in 1992. Kind of a weasel.
Now to answer the actual question: I would use the Bush/Quayle defense. Make the VP so untenable that even the dumbest racist redneck wouldn't do it.
Obama/Sharpton?

There is no need to worry. I also thought about this. If a Democrat were to win in 2008, Hillary Clinton at this point would most likely win as she is very popular in New York, which has one of the greatest amount of Electoral College votes in the country, which is 31 votes. If a Republican were to win, Rudy Giuliani would win. The thing is, both of them are very popular in New York, which could lead to a big rivalry.

I doubt at current pace there will be a Black candidate from either party. But hopefully if we do have one we will not see the violence of an assassination just because of race or political differences.

First he'd have to survive to BE president. The second he became a 'viable' candidate he was givin a secret service detail. Which could only mean they EXPECT an attempt.
IF he does make it, I'd bet some yokel would take a shot at him BEFORE his inauguration.

Daffy Duck would be more qualified than Bush. What has he ever done? He has bankrupted every business he has ever looked at. Look at the royal mess he has created for us. I hope America is past the race thing also. I hope they can look at the man for his credentials rather than his skin. As to experience however I hardly think anybody could do worse than Bush. He is a nightmare. Please don't tell me well he was elected....because we all know he shoved his way into the White House. If not for brother Jeb and Katherine Harris, he would be baleing hay in Crawford Texas.

If he gets elected, I think there's enough hateful people in the country that the risk would be higher than the other candidates. But that's a long ways away. Don't count your chickens.
