I can understand the strip. I have a problems with that. I am not that old. The reason for the strip problem. Each store is has a different way you put the card in.

I am also surprised they allowed him/her to put it in more than 3 times. Banks will block the card after the 3rd try. He/she must of got a wavier for that restriction.

Some machines also have problem is recognizing pins. I don't know why merchants don't help the old people and run the debit as a credit card, it will still come out of their account.

Patience, actont2001, Karma is a you-know-what and when you're older some teeny-bopper's gonna post the same question after an encounter with you and your debit card......

Just take a breath and say something nice or let them know that they're about to put the stripe on backward...I know it's frustrating, I work at a store that stats busy, and when angry customers stand in long lines and roll their eyes behind old people, I empathise with them, but you have to be kind anyway......!!!
good luck...

What bugs me are the old people who insist on going through the U-Scan (self check-out) at the grocery store. They don't even know where the bar codes are on half their items (and FORGET it if they have any produce!) By the time they're finally out of line and have paid, the supervising cashier has pretty much just rung up their entire order for them AND helped them pay. Why do they have to do this?? Seriously, I know lines are long and all that, and U-Scan is open, but really--by the time they're finished f'ing up their order, having the cashier do a price check, blah blah blah, they could have been through the express lane and out to their car and probably half way home!!
