I'm interested in taking a Salsa dancing course. I can't find any on yahoo within the San Antonio area, so does anyone have any info[where, how much, etc]? They MUST be in the San Antonio or Converse area, and offer a beginner's course [I don't think the latter will be much of a problem]

Love,
Tarja

By the way, that's San Antonio [or Converse] Texas.

And I don't know how to convert Euros to USD, so giving the amount in USD would be easier haha.

Tarja,
I'm not from your area either, but I did some searching and found two dance studios in your area:

LA DANZA STUDIO
3718 Blanco Rd # 6,
San Antonio, TX
(210) 785-8355
Thursdays 9:30pm – 12am Salsa Social $10/class

BURGUNDY BALLROOM in the DECO District
1906 Fredericksburg Rd. (upstairs)
San Antonio, TX 78201
210.771.9536 or 210.681.5858
4 week beginner course for $40

Typically, beginner salsa classes are taught in cycles. So you'll have to check with the studio and hopefully they'll have a schedule that works for you.

I would suggest visiting a studio not to take lessons (yet), but to gather flyers and information about salsa dance clubs in your area.

There are usually free beginner lessons before each dance by salsa instructors in the area. You may want to sample a couple of dance instructors to see which instructor works for you. And you may also be able to network and find out more information on who the best dance instructor is in the area.

Once you find the dance studio/dance instructor that you like, consider taking group class lessons. They are very affordable -- about $5 to $15 a group class. Plus you don't need to have a dance partner!

The great thing about group classes is that you get to rotate your partner. So if you end up with a crappy dance partner the first minute, you may get a better partner the next minute.

After you learn the salsa basic steps, you may want to take the course one more time from the beginning. When I took the beginner course again, I found that I learned some of them wrong the first time.

The basic steps are fundamental for the intermediate and advanced salsa moves. These moves are a combination of basic steps put together along with arm and body movements. So its important that you learn the basics steps from a good dance instructor.

Hope this helps!

Look for ballroom studios in the phone book. They typically teach salsa even if it is not listed. It is not always considered a dance within itself because it is a small part of mambo and samba. Whatever you do, don't go to a studio that asks you to sign a contract. They rip you off and they won't teach you as well as an independent might. Contract studios are more about money than the actual dancing. Hope this is helpful!

Make sure you find a good partner too, it's really important. You don't need one to learn, but when you go out dancing you don't want some guy making you look bad. lol.

I'm not from your area
but i can guess the price
if u take it with the class it would be around 25-35 euros per month

if you take private classes, it would cost around 20-35 euros per lesson (45 minutes)

have fun
