Let me answer this another way....if you don't give it enough time to heal properly, you will reinjure it...and each time you reinjure it, it's going to take even longer to heal.

And, when you are 10 years older, you're really going to wish you took the time to recover properly. If you really enjoy your sport, be smart and listen to your body and don't head back onto the court until you are certain your ankle is ready.

Trust me. Been there, done that. Been stupid...got smart.

No such thing as healing fast...sprained ankles take at least 4-6 wks to completely heal, although you will feel mostly painfree in 2-3 wks. If you want to properly take care of the ankle and help the healing process along then you need to rest for the next 3-4 wks, and ice everyday for 15 mins until there is NO swelling in the ankle. You would also be advised to see a physical therapist to strengthen your now weakened ankle muscles and to re-train your balance. Not doing so will leave you with an unstable ankle prone to future sprains.

Do not try to do this quickly. A sprain ankle is serious and needs time to heal. Do not try to rush the process along. Follow this:

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

The ice should be left on the ankle for twenty minutes on and twenty minutes off for the next two hours.

Its technically no longer achievable to recover from a sprained ankle rapidly in case you're an athlete. i became a aggressive determine skater for 12 years and that i sprained the two considered one of my ankles a minimum of three times each and each considering they had by no ability right healed. As an athlete it became impossible for me to in basic terms relax up and stay off the ice for the time i became advised that i could have. incredibly i decreased my interest point (extremely), went to physiotherapy, and had my ankle tapped up in any respect time. collectively because it did "heal" rapidly (say a pair of weeks), it by no ability incredibly completely healed, as a effect making it a lot extra possibly to resprain it interior the destiny. i'd say collectively because it looks expert athletes make speady recoveries, they're extra apt to resprain it interior the destiny as properly.

The most important thing to do is STAY OFF OF IT!!! I know it's hard to resist because you want it to hurry up and heal, but if you don't keep it elevated and get adequate rest, then it won't heal properly and you will receive problems with your ankle in the near to late future!!

Take my word for it...and enjoy your summer :)

rest, and ice the 1st 24...compression, elevation also...then heat after that, range of motion exercise. severe sprains can involve ligament tears that need professional attention

My doctor said hot and cold water baths, alternate them about every 15 minutes. It is supposed to help it heal. He also recommended ultrasound treatment if you have that. Keep it wrapped so you don't re-injure it as well.
