The A/C compressor broke in my car about a few months ago and it's going to cost me about $500-$600 to buy a new one then another $80-$100 to put it in my car. This is way too much money but at the same time it's so hot here in AZ..(temps. 104-115). Do any of you know any alternatives I can do to keep myself cool while driving while I save up enough to buy the compressor?

12volt fan that you can plug into the cigarette lighter.

The first answer I saw about the fan is a great answer, but you can always buy a sunshade reflector for both back and front windshields. That will keep the interior temperature a little lower. Park in shaded areas. Use cloth seat covers (I've even used towels).
On second thought, are you sure the compressor is broken? Did you try checking the fuse(s). I don't know what kind of car you drive, but every vehicle has a fuse box for the A/C,heater fans, lights, etc.
If the fuse is ok, does the air conditioning compressor run at all? Maybe you just need freon refill?
I hope you are going to a reputable mechanic and not some mechanic whio will rip you off in telling you you need anew compressor when all you might have needed is a recharge!
Good luck.

I am going to tell you a joke here it is called 60 and 4 . go 60 miles an hour and all 4 windows down . sorry you need to find a cheaper mechanic than that . it should not cost 5-6 hundred dollars to replace an a/c system and certainly should not cost 80 -100 dollars to put in . call around i am sure you could find something cheaper . good luck dear and I will pray for you .

Take a spray bottle of water and spray it on yourself periodically while you are driving. The air from the open windows will feel cool as it dries the water on your skin.

i'm in UT with 100 degree temps. i haven't fixed the same prob in my 94 civic for two years and i do just fine with the back windows rolled down and one of those ugly-arsed trucker fans clipped to my dash. of course, my hair-do is lost in the process, but i'm willing to sacrifice that to keep 700 dollars.

Let the fan blow on an ice pack. That'll help circulate some cool air.
