It is possible for a betta to get hole in the head. While poor water quality can contribute to this disease as can poor diet, it's root cause is hexamitia. You can treat this with Flagyl (metronidazole) or any similar protozoan treatment. Be sure to keep the water very clean and feed the fish a well balance varied diet. Live and frozen foods will be a good addition to it's diet as much as once a day.

MM is right on with his answer. There is an outside chance that it could be water quality issues. Make sure the bettas are getting regular water changes to eliminate the possibility that the sore could be from too much ammonia.

so which you're disturbing approximately something this is 11,000 gentle years away shifting 4 hundred,000 km a hour. So how long will it take to get right here, 29 million years? perchance 32 million years? this is that if it is easily coming this manner. i think of you would be lots older than 17 if it ever will become a concern.

there can be possible infestation in the tank. may i know if you have changed your water? may could have included parasites. sometimes, it can be of infection. try and check up this site (http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/products.html)
Metronidazole is amebicidal, bactericidal, and trichomonicidal. Unionized metronidazole is readily taken up by anaerobic organisms and cells. Its selectivity for anaerobic bacteria is a result of the ability of these organisms to reduce metronidazole to its active form intracellularly. The electron transport proteins necessary for this reaction are found only in anaerobic bacteria. Reduced metronidazole then disrupts DNA's helical structure, thereby inhibiting bacterial nucleic acid synthesis. This eventually results in bacterial cell death. Metronidazole is equally effective against dividing and nondividing cells.

Go to that link and it should answer your question. It is a disease. But there is a treatment. That link tells you all about it. :-)
