I do the 20 min rule threes this study and it was like it takes 5 mins for stuff to start forming on a egg salad sandwich and like 35 mins for it to start on a skittle

You know, the "second rule" gets shorter and shorter every time i hear it mentioned. To me it's the 15 second rule unless it's a wet surface, and even then sometimes I'll just run it under water to give it a spritz off. But I just read a study the other day that actually proved that it's more like 30-45 seconds before bacteria will attach itself. I think it's whatever kind of area that the thing is dropped on, like furniture, tables counters, wherever it is not supposed to be.

well...when working at a local food establishment i went with the i didn't see it hit the floor rule...even though it was sitting there a few...oh well...it usually depends on the counter, people are cleaning that more than the floor. so i'd say 10 seconds but it would be wicked awesome if you just sucked it up like a vacuum hose with your mouth right off the counter and threw your arms up and shouted "GOT IT"

No, I believe the 10 second rule applies to counter surface recon.

Usually when i drop my food on the floor i throw it away unless my dog gets it first. So if i dropped my food on any other counter top but my own i'd throw it away.

If the counter is clean, the rule is extended to however long it takes for you to say oops or swear, then laugh and pick it up.

Yep, but by the time the food falls, you better be picking it back up. 3 seconds goes by quickly!
