I built a computer 3 years ago and I got a free program off the net but I can't rem where that was at.

I have Windows Vista. All new hardware. Do the new OS's not take a floppy to format the HD into NTFS? From the answers I've gotten so far I understand that the Vista CD will do that by itself.

go into dos then enter format command

here is an option that my work for you it is call microsoft Windows xp. it has a built in format and it sets up your computeroor if you are going with another OS they too have format fuctionality. also download Hirens boot disk it has alot of tools you can use including a HDD eraser program. also the New drives have a cd that is used to setup the drive and it come with a format function.

If you're installing Win98, then you'll need a Win98 boot disk. You can get one from http://www.bootdisk.com If you are installing XP, it will format the drive for you.

If you use the Win98 boot disk, there is a little DOS that you'll need to know. Things like "fdisk" and "format C:/ You can do a little surfing to find this info, or you can repost here when you have everything ready.

format ? the windows boot cd can format the drive for you ( use quick format ) if you want secure delte use 'http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Just pop your OS disc in and it will do it for you.
