Never actually hitchhiked, but once my car ran out of gas on the highway and I had my 2 yr old my 1 yr old and I was pregnant. We started walking (& pushing a stroller) and by the Grace of God a woman pulled over and gave me a ride to the nearest shopping mall where I called my hubby. (no cell phone at the time).

Scary, because you always try to teach your children never to do such a thing!

I've hitchhhiked about 5 times. I used to have a car that the gas meter was broken in. So I'd occasionally forget that I was running low, and run out of gas.

It's amazing at how fast a young woman can get picked up. Every time i hitchhiked I was picked up within 2 minutes. I was lucky and the people were very nice. Most of them gave me a ride to the gas station and back (without me asking - they offered). However every time I had a pocket knife in my hand just in case. Better safe than sorry.

I would never! I had to walk about 6 miles to get home from a party cause i had no ride at 3 in the morning on the side of the highway! It was very scary and a crazy thing for me to do! A truck driver pulled over and asked me if i wanted a ride, i did not take the offer i just wanted to walk home then taking a ride from a stranger! This was in high school when i was a bit more crazy then i am now!

Yes I've hitchhiked a lot when I was younger. From Ft. Monmouth NJ to Columbus, Ohio, and from Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville Alabama to Point Pleasant WV. On the last trip I went 3 days without sleep.

I have a couple of times but I wouldnt recommend it for a Women. Mainly cause they will more likely be abducted than say a 300 hundred pound 6'6" man. I will say though there are some tough places to hitchhike like Lake Tahoe California there are some cold hearted people up there.

Once. As a military dependent living in a foreign country a friend and I hitchhiked a few miles with two guys who barely spoke English, had a bunch of empty beer bottles rattling around in the back floorboard, and the guy behind the wheel gunned it all the way.

That one experience convinced me to never do it again.

Hitchhiking is pretty fun if you live in a good area. Me and my friends do it during the summers when we are too lazy to walk. Most times it will be teenagers that pick you up because they recognize you but every once and a while a older person will pick you up

Thirty plus years ago when the world was a different place, nearly always two or more of us, but a couple of times alone. Wouldn't do it today, will sometimes give a ride. Way too many scary people out there making it harder to be kind to strangers

Yep. I tried it when I was about 7 years old. Got a ride straight to the police station. The officer took me home. I had snuck out of the backyard under the fence when my Mom was in the kitchen.

Used to and enjoyed it. It used to be that you could go almost anywhere you want with very little or no problem, but since the publicity of horror stories, very few people will offer a ride. So, nowadays it's really not worth trying.
