Computers, including laptops don't "come with the internet." Rather, many of them come with the hardware you need to connect them to the internet. To put your laptop online wirelessly, you'll need access to a wireless network, or "Wi-Fi hotspot." Almost all newer laptops on the market now come with wireless network adapters, so that in itself is nothing special. You can easily purchase a wireless network adapter separately and install it in a laptop that didn't come with one. The advantages of a wireless connection over being plugged in with cables are obvious, and with a Wi-Fi enabled laptop, you can get online anywhere that authorized wireless internet access is available. To create your own wireless network at home with internet access, you'll need internet access from your ISP, phone company or cable company and a transceiver device, the wireless router, to plug your cable or DSL modem into.

If you have a wireless laptop, you won't need to have an external modem when you're somewhere that offers wireless internet. Sometimes universities, cafes (example Starbucks) etc offer free wireless internet. In that case, all you'd have to do is open up your laptop and connect to the network. No hassle. So basically, you can walk around and still be able to access the internet as long as you're in the range of where the internet can be accessed.

The laptop does not come with the internet. If you want to get wireless internet at home, you'll have to subscribe to the service separately.

Having a wireless laptop does not mean that you won't be able to get on the internet with a cable. Most of the laptops have a port where you can plug in the ethernet cable (your internet cable). So even if you don't have wireless internet at home, you can still get on it using your cable if that's what you have at home.

First, the less wordy answer. Nope, it doesn't "come with internet". Ya gotta pay for ISP services. Yer over a barrel, and all that...maybe you can get free connections or "hot spots" now and then at the library or a local restaurant or a motel or Starbucks...

Now the wordier answer. Advantage? I got a "fully loaded" wireless laptop. That is, it's got cards and stuff for Bluetooth and 802.11a/b/g and Infra-red. (These days you can get 802.11n, too.) That way, I don't have to have no danged adapter cards to poke in the holes for communication with various other devices that use wireless communication of various sorts. My laptop talks wireless, no card, to the router in my house. The other laptop has to use a cable and sits there on the desk. If I didn't have wireless inside, I'd have to buy a $100 or so adapter card and fasten it on to talk to the router. As for the infra-red, I can control the TV...or share addresses with my iPAQ. As for the Bluetooth, I can connect to the internet using my phone (costs phone charges, of course) or upload phone contacts. Wireless has its benefits.

The laptop does not come with internet, but many places provide wireless internet for free - libraries, coffee shops, etc.
