After watching some old senior citizen get arrested on cops for meeting a fake hooker I feel that police officers are creating a situation that wouldn't have happened. What are your thoughts? Don't get me wrong, I dont believe prostitution is right but this doesn't seem right to me.

No they aren't.If that old man didn't go to the fake prostitute,he would have went to a real one. Most men that visit prostitutes do it on a regular basis, and many have been caught.Yet they still continue to do it.I think it's a form of addiction for some men.

The prostitute or criminal in general (i.e. a drug dealer) has the right to ask the undercover cop if s/he is a police officer & the cop has to tell them that s/he is. If they don't tell them they're a PO, that is entrapment. But if no one asks & the criminal gets arrested, there was no entrapment. They were still committing a crime & they got caught.
As for your scenario, it probably still would've happened. The senior citizen or whoever it was would've likely just met someone else (like a real prostitute) & probably has done this on other occassions.

technically, yes, it's entrapment.

The operative theory, however, is that the Johns are already in the market, and wouldn't have solicited the prostitutes (or the fake prostitutes in this case) if they weren't already intending to do so.

The law treats intent as nearly equivalent to action, particularly with respect to crimes of property, person, or terpitude.

Thus a police officer can supply you with real drugs and even allow you to consume them before arresting you for buying them, or at least being under the influence of them. A cop could literally buy you a beer, follow you to your car, let you get in, then arrest you for DUI. A cop could offer to kill your former business partner or cheating lover, then arrest you after you say yes to the deal.

I disagree that they are "creating" a situation, however. They are doing their job, which they are interpreting as "get criminals off the streets," it's just that they are interpreting thought crime as tantamount to real crime and doing their level best to tantalyze the thinkers into action.

The bottom line is this, if you fear arrest, know who you are doing business with, know them really well.

Absolutely. They set up the sting and try to pull people in. Sure, on some they don't have to pull too hard. But I've seen these segments on the new specials where they almost have to beg the guy before he gives in, and then bust him.

I am not for prostitution either. However, I am for legalizing it. People should have the right to make their own decisions, whether to purchase prostitution or be a prostitute. We do not need our government legislating morality.

Prostitution is a victimless crime, which I see as a contradiction in terms. But that is another topic. If the fake hooker had intentionally gone over to the person and initiated the conversation and the deal, it is entrapment. But in those sting operations, they wait for the John to come to them and initiate the conversation. Then even make sure to ask "what do you want" and "how much".

The thing is, Brandon, the old fart was looking to break the law. Otherwise, he would not have been arrested. Keep your nose clean and you'll be fine.

I think it is...give me a break. No matter how many people they arrest for it, it's never going to stop. It's the oldest career on the planet.

I think t is,but then,I'm in favor of legalizing protitution, after all,it would stop organized crime's foot-hold,it would(and should be government regulated. But,back to your question in my opinion,it is entrapment
