i want to know how long you have to let the car run before and what you do after..

the 1st answer is good but it does not mention that the safety factor of an exhaust leak into the cabin of the auto is very dangerous to your health and as well your life --- please consider that a patch is just that .. a patch ... and should be considered very carefully ---- fix the car properly and you will eliminate the worry of asphyxiation ........

Try not using tape, that and muffler cement are nothing but trouble and it really does make more sense to have the damage repaired.

If you're really tight on money and HAVE to use it, keep in mind it's a temporary fix and it really is not a great idea in the first place.

The surface you use it on needs to be clean, rust-free, and warm, not operating temperature, but not ice cold.
