or was he just covering ESPN's rear end during their beloved home run chase?

Kind of funny how their "ultimate insider" didn't say peep about guys heads growing twice their normal size when it was happening.

listen it is prevalent in every professional sport and it would be dumb for someone who makes their living off of that sport to blow whistles.

Without proof, Peter Gammons could not have gone on the air and talked about steroid use among then-current major league players. He and ESPN would have been sued for millions within minutes.

I'm sure he heard whispers about steroids, as did many of those in front offices. But proving such allegations is a completely different matter.

Peter probably is the most influential baseball writer of the last 40 years. He deserves to be a Hall of Famer.

He knew about it. Not many people on the face of the earth know more about what's happening in baseball than Peter Gammons. Of course he wouldn't say anything, the homerun chase was reinvigorating baseball and if a steroid controversy was brought up then it could have been devastating to MLB. That would be just as bad for Gammons as it would be for the league.

How can anyone remember everything that Gammons, or any sports analyst, said in 1998? Do you remember everything Gammons said about Roger Clemens in 2001?

Thank you for seeing beyond Gammons' supposed expertise and articulating just how completely full of **** he really is. . . .

Gammons knew. But he is DUMB. He's one of those writers who toes the company line. It was hush hush back then. They probably hoped no one would ever find out.
