First all the entertainers will probably fly in on private jets. All the people attending will be driving there. There will be concessions like hamburgers and hotdogs. Lets not forget the processing of meat was found to be the worst cause of Global Warming according to the IECC. None of the lighting will be compact flourescent and the trash left behind will be bad.
But go Earth I guess.

Hichef--where in my post did I say anything about liberals and conservatives. If anything you are making this political.

Actually the lighting is supposed to be flourescent so the wasted flourescent energy won't be as much as wasted incandescent energy.
They're also gonna wrap the hotdogs in recycled paper because those trees are already dead anyway so they aren't really contributing to the demise of the forests they want to protect.
Also they will buy carbon credits so that the tons of pollution they spew out of their private jets doesn't really count.
No, I don't see any hypocrisy there.

I'm not sure about that. This weekend I'm going to a Blues Festival, which benefits a Food Bank. As I have in the past, I will ride public transportation, which is always a lot of fun since the trains are packed with festival goers. There is always a good choice of food vendors with plenty of vegan and earth friendly opportunities. At the end of the concert the park is always left clean after the 10s of thousands of concertgoers pick up and put their trash into recycling and trash receptacles that are provided. I don't know about the Earth Concert, but that is my experience with similar events. If you've never attended an event like this you are probably just speculating.

totally, but the audiences around the world likely drive less than Americans but that's not your point, I do agree with you. The one in the US is at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford NJ. Ever been there? It's surrounded by freeways and smokestacks and dirty heavy industry. True Environmentalists should protest the Live Earth concerts! ha! Go Earth, uh, I guess. The hypocrisy is blinding, but I'm sure there will be people there with some kind of positive message and actions, as there is at any big festival. Isn't Earth Day enough?

You could look at it that way,but can the message get out without exerting energy. Teddy Roosevelt the 4th is involved in it,i guess the spirit of conservationism lives on. Benjamin Franklin wrote about conserving resources and climate change. When will the world listen

Don't forget the tons of garbage the concerts will create, the amount of human waste, the amount of fuel used and the amount of water needed for all those people as well.
I guess it's ok to pollute if your doing it for the "right" cause.

Good points, and valid. These concerts will probably in themselves contribute more to "global warming" than all the human activity in the United States for the next 20 years (OK, so I exaggerated) -- but hey, let's take a stand and show the rest of the evil world that we mean what we say. Yeah. Great. Whatever.

To the left, the symbols are always more important than the substance of any issue. Put a solar panel on your house to show that you really care, then hop a private jet and fly three thousand miles to meet with others that really care about the environment too.

If a person looks hard enough they can find the bad with anything. Even with situations that have the best of intentions. You did remarkably well in your endeavor.
