Don't you have a teacher? Or a book?

Just replace x and you'll get the answer.

i.e. f(x) = 4x - 3 ==> f(-1) = 4(-1) - 3

I do not like marking someone down when the answer is wrong and a lot of effort was put in trying to answer the question.

f(x) - is pronounced function of x which means that the variable in the right hand side of the equation is the letter x
f(-1) simply means function of -1 which in this case is function of x when x = -1

It is like saying, if y=4x-3 calculate the value of y when x=-1

You have already been given the correct answers by several experts and I will therefore not solve them.

The answer to your first question is -7.

If you can't figure out the answer to the second one from that, you need to pay more attention in class.
