The labels help them remember how they are supposed to feel about them.

Actually is was Nikita Khrushchev in 1958.
He sat on a John Deere tractor in Iowa and proclaimed "We will bury you without firring a shot." Since then it has been the RedsState Mantra.
Just like the Romans conquered Britain by getting the Druids, Jutes, and Celts fighting. RedsStaters have divided America and are now serving slices to their Aristocrat NeoCon supporters.

Actually most liberals would oppose labeling people anything other then American. Liberals are the majority of people seeking to take things like this off of college applications and other ways you have to disclose race. But when it is necessary, liberals would rather terms like African American or Japanese American are used in place of Black or Asia. many also disagree with many forms of affirmative action. That was necessary when minorities were truly segregated and oppressed on large scales. In most schools and workplaces, racism in general is gone, and thus no need for affirmative action.

Because slavery oppressed an entire race of people for 400 years on this continent, so this minor program of affirmative action is being used temporarily to level the playing field.
How does it benefit America to have 10% of our citizens permanently discriminated against? I don't get that.
Anyone who thinks racism has disappeared in the country must be a member of that same group of idiots who think Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. That's you, Randy.

Why is it so hard for you to understand the commonality in all those "labels" you quoted - they are all American, yet still have an identity in their heritage. You say it focuses on their differences and don't bring us together and I say that DESPITE our differences, we are all American.
Affirmative Action would never have been necessary had it not been for those isms you refer to. Had minorities been treated with equality and acceptance instead of merely tolerance, there would be no need to enact legislation to make sure that bigots did not discriminate.
People like you prohibit progress and seek only to point out differences because you fear things which are different than you. You forgot to mention phobias - xenophobia appears to be what you are afflicted with.

Oh boy, how easy it is for some to point fingers, yet if you go to their suburban neighborhood you wouldbe hard pressed to find an African American. These labels were not just made up. Some of them are borne by the people that are just that , Asian American or what ever. Can't see where this is a liberal thing.

Don't get me started.
We won one of the most important political fights in the history of our country. We made free speech, freedom of expression, and equality household values.
Then the socialists started joining under the label, "Liberal".
They fought a good fight, and if they called you a few names, hey, it wasn't us, was it?
By the times some of us caught on, we were already an adjunct of the socialist party of America.
NOT ME!
I am FOR Freedom of Speech (for Republican talk radio as well).
I am FOR Freedom of Expression (even fundamentalist Christians and Islamic people)
I am FOR equality (not special rights for special groups).
I am against socialism.
Love your point. Naming people breaks us down. If we won't accept socialism by democratic vote, then we need to be broken apart sufficiently that enough anger can be generated to have a revolution and raise the socialist flag.
Unfortunately, they didn't count on one thing: Freedom of Speech. My party set the very tool by which they can be defeated. They can't hide what they want. They can't pretend, or disguise it. Free speech means that we talk about everything.
Socialist revolutions come from a huge underclass of people that are unhappy and fairly stupid enough to think that things will get better.
How do you believe that after all the freedom of information we have had about socialist nations?
Right now the focus is on making you hate democrats, and democrats hate you.
I see misguided people. Surrounding them, I see an awful lot of blue and red state patriots, period.
Keep speaking up. It's our best defense.

Aren't you guilty of exactly that which you accuse others of? You are using the label "liberal" here to describe a group of people who supposedly all do this, that, and the other. Stop being a hypocrite already, ya putz!

Their fathers should have been a little more careful with their jism. They are the only ones that label, you gotta keep tabs on everyone. My best friend is black and was born here from a long line of generations of American citizens. He wonders, just as I, what the heck an African-American really is!

They can only win elections by fractionalizing there base. They play in group politics. they need to find the next group and use them as victims so they get the vote. The last roung would have been the illegal immigrants. I am white and my wife is black and we are conservatives. She does not call herself African American because she has more in common with me then anyone in Africa and by the Way Africa is a continent not a country so if you call yourself African American you need to tell me what part of African you are from and what country. That way I can know your true culture.

I don't see why people are so intent on defining themselves based on something that you have no control over. If you are born black, white, Asian, whatever, it is not your choice. You are what you are. So who cares? Instead people need to focus on what kind of person that they are, how they live and treat others. That is what really matters.
