It depends upon experience, and location.
You can pull reports from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics based on location and title.
I presently work with people that make $34,000/yr, and are considered beginner programmer level. And also some that have masters degrees, and are senior level programmer analysts, making $140,000/yr.
My salary is just about $100,000/yr, with 2 1/2 years of college (with no degree, although I wouldn't suggest going this route), but 20+ years experience now on multiple platforms (including Windows 3.1-Windows XP, Unix, Linux, PowerMax, Solaris, AIX, etc.) and multiple languages (including C, C++, C#, ASP, JSP, PHP, MySQL, SQL Server, SH, CSH, KSH, Javascript, HTML, CSS, etc.).

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career. starts out at about 41k a year. Goes up as you rack up good experience and references, and move on to larger scale projects.
