For a 13 year old boy, I'm OUTRAGEOUSLY hairy, especially at my legs. I feel really ashamed of them because my leg hairs are really long and curly, and I wear shorts to school. Many of my friends have commented (and gossiped) about how hairy my legs are. I've even noticed a few teachers stare in utter disgust at my legs. I'm really ashamed of my really hairy legs. Should I shave them? Why or why not?

We have a lot of double standards in this country. Only girls are allowed to shave their legs and armpits, and men are not. In most other cultures in the world, women don't even shave there at all. But many men do shave their chest and belly hair.... and even more. I don't understand it all myself. I have a couple of male friends that do shave their legs in summer especially because they wear shorts a lot and say it looks better. I have to agree. It's just that we are not used to seeing a man without hairy legs! There are some men that have very little body hair, and then some have more than they need. Perhaps you can join your swim team. They all shave, because it makes them faster in the water (so they say) and you can use that as an excuse. The little hair we have doesn't help to keep us warm, or to offer any protection, so there is no other reason to have it. It's all a very personal thing -- if you want to do it, then it is up to you. Your mother or father may have a different idea... but times do change.

What ever you feel comfortable doing. I don't think there's anything wrong with a guy shaving his legs or any part of his body. Personally, I don't like a lot of hair. You should be careful when shaving, you may get a lot of ingrown hairs. If the amount of hair you have bothers you then maybe use clippers, it will trim your hair to very short, but won't give you a very clean shave. That will reduce the ingrown hairs. When I shave my husband's neck with the clippers I do his back & make him clip under his arms. I can't get him to d the chest & legs, but that's okay. But whatever is comfortable for you. If you're ashamed then maybe use clippers & I think that will help you. But remember the problem isn't with you, it's with those who talk maliciously about you. Do what you feel right about. Besides a lot of body builders wax, shave, or use cream to remove all of their hair on their bodies.Good luck. 2D

first, you should do whatever you feel is best. i would recommend not shaving your legs because guys at school would probably make fun of you even more. second, you shouldn't even worry what the other people say. EVERYONE has something wrong with them. in your case it's your hair problem, in my case it's my deformities from having serious scoliosis, skull and neck problems. people stare all the time mainly at my rib hump (it's a deformity that comes with bad scoliosis and mine is my right shoulder blade sticking way out. the people who make fun of you are just stupid, inconsiderate people that should really find something better to do than make fun of you for something you can't help. you shouldn't be ashamed of them and just leave them alone.

Ok, first of all, unless you want to shave them because they make YOU physically uncomfortable, don't do it. Doing something to change other people's reaction to you only gives validation to their crappy reaction.

Second, your teachers should keep their eyeballs in their heads. Kids are tough enough judges of each other; they should be able to feel accepted around their teachers.

I would advise you to just not wear shorts. Maybe that would quell some of the gossip.

Otherwise, just tell them not to worry, they'll mature and go through puberty one day too and then they'll have their own leg hair to gawk at. :)

no, if you shave them now, they'll make fun of you even more (hello?, a guy shaving?). if you're going to high school for the first time, then shave them because high school is a new beginning and practically no one knows you or if you ever had hairy legs or shaved.

Yeah i agree with the other answers. Shaving will only make things worse BUT maybe you can cut the curly ends off so it won't be so noticable.

Unless you're seriously into biking or swimming, don't shave your legs. Just use clippers to trim the hair so it doesn't stand out as much.

Sure..why not? lol. I think it's okay. And, if they ask why you shaved your legs,....say it's less itchy. Or.... that you just felt like it. Or,...your sister dared you to do it. loool. =) I heard some males shave their legs because it helps them run faster in cross country competitions. Pretty cool... EITHER WAY. Do what you want, and what you feel comfortable doing. <333

If you feel like you must shave them, go for it. But don't you think it is going to stand out even more when you do shave them.
