George Bush?
Seriously, though:
What is being described is known as "line breeding". It is the process by which new strains of domesticated animals originate. Dogs are the best example. All poodles look the same because the original animal was mated with a littermate and this process continued until any two members of this population of dogs could mate and produce offspring with pre-determined characteristics.
Genes determine what physical characteristics an organism will have. Genes occur in pairs and can be "dominant" or "recessive". Line breeding results in each gene pair being totally dominant or totally recessive. If enough gene pairs undergo this change, then all the members of an inbred population will express these traits, no matter what the breeding pattern is.
Genes occur in pairs because sometimes one of the genes is defective. These genes often cause crippling defects in an organism. If paired with a normal gene, the defect is usually not expressed. Line breeding increases the possibility that the offspring can inherit defective gene pairs. This is the reason most registered breeds of dogs are prone to a number of genetic disorders.
Domesticated animals can be line bred easily because defective individuals can either be sterilized or simply killed. This removes them from the breeding population and decreases the chances of them passing on defective genes. Of course, with humans this is not usually an option. Isolated populations of people tend to become line bred over time whether there is incest or not. Like domestic animals, identical gene pairs tend to become fixed in the population. Tsay Sachs syndrome is a genetic disorder which ocurrs chiefly amoungst a certain population of people with Jewish ancestry. Incest was not permitted, but the social isolation of these people meant marriages took place strictly within this small community. Native Hawiians practiced incest routinely. In fact, the king was expected to marry his sister to continue the royal bloodline. The Hawiians dealt with malformed infants by simply tossing them into the sea. Native Hawiian culture has been distroyed for hundreds of years. If it were still undisturbed however, anyone visiting the island would probably feel as though they were surrounded by clones.
