OMG!I know!I am 13 too and I have the same ...erm "problem". It started when I was 11 or 12 I was trying to go to sleep and then suddenly i became "paralized" I could not open my eyes or move my body!I struggeled for like 30 seconds to open my ryes and move my body!It was sooo scary!!!It happened again when it was close to my 13th bday...Sooo scary...I wonder why it happens.... I use a nightlight....I avoid looking in dark spaces because sometimes my mind perceives figures....I'm not crazy just a little freaked out...I can sleep with the lights off its not that hard ...but i prefer not to...I hope I grow out of it.
Nothing bad ever happened to me.....
Sincerly, Renee

Getting a night light might help. You also need to realize that your fears are probably irrational. Just think about it for a second: how likely is it that someone is in your room? How did they get in? Why are they only there when it's dark?
I used to always worry that there was someone in my house when I was home alone (especially if it was dark), but I started to think about it rationally. The doors were locked and the windows were latched, so they'd have to break in (which you'd hear).
I would also suggest going to see a therapist/counselor. You say you don't want to, but you don't say why. I think there's a reason you don't want to go, but what's worse: Seeing someone, or living with this fear?

Don't feel too bad, I was scared of the dark until I was 12. I am 13 now. If you have pets it helps to let them sleep in your room. A nightlight helps too. As embarassing as it might sound have you tried sleeping with a stuffed animal? Or you can play soft music.
Maybe you need to do something to relax before bed. Try yoga, reading a good book, etc. Cover your face with a blanket. Those are all the tricks I can thik of to help you with your problem. Even some adults are afraid of the dark. Trust me, you are not alone.

Hmm that's a toughie. Maybe you could try covering your TV at night with a towel and use a night light. Then gradually ween yourself off the night light. Instead of the towel you could even tape a silly picture of like a puppy over the TV screen so you don't have to worry about a reflection. Or you could get one of those sound clocks( I have one). They play diferent relaxing sounds like the ocean or rain to help you relax. You can even buy one that has a timer so the sound will play and shut off after like 15, 30, or 60 minutes. I love mine and it helps me fall asleep when I have a nightmare or something. I'm 16 and I'm still scared of the dark there is no shame in it. The dark is creepy.

There is nothing to worry about it. It is all about nature, the nature upon which God has created Adam an Eve.Mankind has always been afraid of the darkness.
I would suggest you to use lamps and make your room lit up whenever you watch TV.Always keep a good and safe company whenever you are sitting or walking in darkness and above all, always inform your parents.
Enjoy life because God has made it for you to enjoy it.May your life be more brighter than ever before!

I wouldn't be too worried about it. I posted a question not too long ago.."You ever get that feeling, like someone is after you when you walk through your house in the dark? And it makes you want to skitter back to your room and hide under the covers?" You should check it out. These are adults answering and admitting they have this inexplicable fear sometimes. My husband isn't "afraid" of the dark, but it definitely makes him uncomfortable. And he is 30 years old! Check out my old questions, it might make you feel better. And remember there is no shame in buying night lights no matter how old you are!

I'm the same way, except i'm 15.
i get afraid of night, because i have a fear of being murdered, dying in my sleep, etc, even though i know none of that is likely to ever happen...
I get scared to look in the tv as well, because of reflections...
i personally think I have an overactive imagination, and i just kinda say oh well, when thinking about my fear.
yeah, i get creeped out at night & all, but i know my fear could be a lot worse...
honestly, if you got any animals, sleep with them in your room, it'll probably make you feel safer. I sleep with my 2 dogs, a boston terrier mix & pit bull on my bed, and i have a cat that also sleeps in my room.
it helps me.

It's not the dark you are afraid of, its the unknown. Now with that profound quote out of the way I can't stand the dark either! Haha. Just set your TV to a sleep timer and go to sleep with it on it will illuminate the room and the noise will drown out your paranoid thoughts.

Well this might have something to do with it.

Anyways I think your mom was asking about you on here. If that was your mom, she is really worried about you. You need to go talk to her. That is really weird, that usually doesn't just happen over night. Just don't go in the dark anymore for a while and in a month or so see if it bothers you as much....it might just be a phase you are going through.
