Just to add to Colin's advice, you can buy a USB hard drive quite cheaply now. A 250 gig costs less than £60 if you shop around. Then back up ALL your important work on to this and you can use it with any computer available. I would also agree that you should stress that this is the second problem and explain the importance of your laptop for your job. Good luck

First thing above all is to copy off your vital files onto a flash pen, CD or whatever, then maybe a colleague or friend will let you work on his machine if push comes to shove. Problem is, Comet don't actually do the repairs themselves but shunt the machine off elsewhere. Then there may be parts that need to be ordered, the wait for them to arrive and be fitted, then the return eventually to the store, all these things take time.

Unless you need to use Comet for warranty purposes, it'd be better to build up a relationship with a knowledgeable local PC repair man, with whom you can discuss problems; you never know, he might loan or hire you a spare machine in the future.

Whatever you do, get into the practice of backing up your data before your machine goes away; in fact, it'd be wise to do this anyway on a regular basis just in case it goes phut without warning.

Get a more reliable laptop.

The problem is that much of a laptop design is custom. So parts need to be ordered more often. If they are not in stock at the manufacturer then they have to wait for the parts to get scrounged up from somewhere.

Laptop repairs are not cheap. If you think that it is going to keep on breaking then I would stop throwing good money after bad and spring for a new laptop.

1. be assertive with your tone.
2 .Demand to see the manager.
3. request a brand new replacement.

If that fail then....................................................

4. Tell the manager you will happily stand at the store's entrance and tell all incoming customers what a bunch of incompitant t***ers the staff are, until they rectify the problem
