Marylin Monroe was a size 14 which I would not say was slim but she had a beautiful figure and great curves. I like to think of curvy as curves in all the right places- more like an hourglass sort of figure (think Jessica Rabbit!!).

A person can easily be slim (not skinny) and curvy, if she has a low waist to hip ratio.
Having said that, curves are more noticeable when a woman is at the higher end of her normal weight range (BMI of 21 and above) because curvy women store fat in their bust, hips and thighs. However, if she gets terribly overweight, she might use her waist definition, and being curvy is all bout that well defined waist :)
Nevertheless, when a curvy woman loses weight, the curves do not disappear. Curves are largely determined by bone structure and genetics.
BTW, all these people commenting on Marilyn Monroe being a size 14 probably haven't taken a good look at her pictures. She was a slim woman with an ample bust (not big at all) and wide hips. She was probably a size 2 at her lightest and a size 6 at her heaviest.
Thanks to vanity sizing, now obese people can claim to have the same dress size as Marilyn Monroe *sigh* Her waist measured merely 23 inches, people...Do the math.

Slim just refers to how narrow the body looks in relation to the height. Curvy applies to the relationship between the bust-waist-hip measurements. Usually where the body represents an hourglass type figure with significant waist/hip ratio. So you can be slim, curvy or both. Hope this helps.

marilyn monroe was considered curvy or voluptuous. She was probably the equivalent of a size 14 plus size model if she were alive today.
Slim is somebody like Charlize Theron, Audrey Hepburn,

Being a Marilyn Monroe fan myself, she was always curvy in the beginning of her career. Big b*obs big butt nice curves.
But the sooner it got closer to her murder..I mean death, she got slim. Not that it didn't look good. Because she still had nice curves, but she lost weight and slimmed down a bit.
Curvy= Plump b*obs big butt
Slim= Thin body not too plump not to skinny but just rite

i think it has a lot of different meanings to different people. but you know if you think of maralyn monroe being curvy but still thin and think of nicole richie as thin/slim. maralyn monroe was more "curvy" because she had more defined hips/boobs/butt/thighs, or "curves", whereas slim like nicole richie is smaller body and not as defined "curves" i hope i explained it okay.

curvy is big hips, a little bit thick but not necessarily fat. Slim is very thin, small hips, not as curvy.
