If I had to guess - it seems mostly that Syria, Arabia, northern Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan are mostly Sunni. Southern Iraq and Iran seem to be the hotbed of the Shiite sect.

bin Laden, from Saudi Ariabia, is Sunni. The radical Sunnis seem to think of Shiites as heretics, worse that being a non-believer; which is why the violence between the two in Iraq is so great. there's a strong connection between the Pakistani and Afghan sides of the border where bin Laden is supposedly hiding, so he's among Sunni friends there. Bush propaganda to the contrary, you don't hear much about Iran support for the Taliban or al Queda.

So my guess is she's "Sunni".

It hardly matters whether she is shia, sunni ..etc... None are actually recognised; these are divisions and sects that are actually forbidden in Islam.

Also Benazir's mum is Iranian.
Her father Pakistani.
