I feel they never take the time to listen to real hip-hop instead of that commercial stuff

People don't take the time to listen to good Hip Hop because its hard to find and good cds lately are few and far between.

As far as why people don't like it: If you take 5 minutes to think about what today's pop/mainstream rap is you will see that the image it sells is just a new version of the same old "sex, drugs, and rock&roll". The look has just been changed to fit the 'inner city'.

Before rap went mainstream rockers used to be surrounded by naked women at their shows, they would sing about violence and excessive lifestyles, and that's what made them sell. Rockers used to have a motto: "Live fast and die young." So why is it a big surprise that the music industry is doing this to rap now that it has gone mainstream?

Pop rap does suck musically. it doesn't take any talent to talk about who you shot, the club, hoes, and money you don't have. The technology for anybody to make a song now without knowing the first thing about music now makes too easy now for record companies to put out a cookie cutter type of rap that we see on tv and hear on the raido every day.

Rap is just the latest genre to enter the mainstream. What sells rap is the same as what sold rock and other forms of pop music: Sex, and controversey. This is how the music industry markets this music to us, and it's not just rap. Brittany Spears couldn't hold a note if it had handles on it. She only sells because of her looks. Rap is the same. Just a slightly different look.

So people hate it because they're out of touch. Look at our culture. All pop music has gone through the same thing. I hate what rap has turned into but it's only that way because the majority of people must be eating it up. After all, if pop rap didn't make money, then record companies wouldn't market it so much, right?

I'll answer your question with a question: What is "real hip-hop?" What IS the good stuff? I'm pretty contemptuous with most of what I hear on the radio, because the hip-hop that I hear is idiotic and shallow, obsessed with bad sex, bad jewelry and phony tales about being a "gangsta," i.e., a worthless criminal who contributes nothing to society and spends their time getting high and hurting other people.

If you can point people toward hip-hop that's worth listening to, that actually has REAL worth and doesn't need an encyclopedia's worth of inside references to figure it out, go right ahead.

I'm serious. If you want people to stop hating on it, you need to start pointing out the good stuff to people. Otherwise nobody will ever know.

They probably don't want to take the time to experience something different. They may be afraid to get out of their comfort zone and try listening to something different whatever the music maybe "real" , "commercial rap, hip hop, or even crunk music.

well rap music is tite but its jus ppl turn that shootin and killin and havein as many gurls as they can and treat them and talk about them like if they are objects into a reality which is sad.fact of the matter is yea it can sound good but ppl take it to far into reality so yes it does corrupt some ppl. but thats only cuzz most ppl hear the most popular ones which arent always the greatest and some of the songs havin cursin in every other line. or they cud have a whole song about sex.eg the whisper song. so rite now majortiy of the rap musics is doin that much goodto society i mean bcuz they have so much corrupt stuff out already when someone good comes along singin about somethin worthwhile and good it usually doesnt get that popular.

Most people who "hate" rap music, hate it because they can not relate to it. Or because they only see the music as one sounded. They don't understand a lot of the inspiration the meanings or even the purpose of it. Its like anything, if you cant relate to it, you're not gonna favor it, or take to it. I believe thats only natural. Now for people to be as harsh as they are, I think its totally uncalled for. You know, I'm not a fan of rock n roll or heavy metal and all that. but i don't hate it, or protest it, or even discriminate against it. If its not my preference then I just won't listen to it. Because in those genre(s) of music, what they say has a meaning, it relates to them and their lives and etc....so for me to do that, I would be wrong. But thats the difference especially in rap. Because for the most part rappers and people in hip hop wont judge other music or criticize it, though they constantly on a daily basis receive that same criticism.

That question could have a million answers to it. Why do people hate country, pop, techno, heavy metal, or anything else. Personal preference has alot to do with it; some people like to hear a bass, and some people would rather hear the guitar. Also, it has alot to do with the people that you're around; friends and family influence what you like. If I were to hear a rap song about shooting somebody, I might think that all rap songs are about that (and alot of people tend to stick with THAT excuse); same goes for country music; if one singer lost his dog, then somebody else must have, and there are alot of stray dogs out there.

Unfortunately that's how our society is, frankly I'm tired of commercial rap. All they talk about are rims, money, jewelry, women, and killing. And society looks at Hip-Hop like that's all we're about which is so not true. Radio stations hardly ever play true hip-hop because its not "popular" right now. I truly believe that's why there is so much ignorance in America because no one takes the time to educate, people just make assumptions and that's why some people hate "rap" music.

I don't like rap at all. When I listen to music I like to listen to someone who can sing. Rapping isn't singing, it's just a bunch of fast talking & it's repetitive. I just don't like it. And most times the lyrical content is derogatory or vulgar. I can't stand it. It's about the only genre that I won't listen to. Good Luck. 2D

Now I personally do not like eap, yes, there is some goos, underground non-media influenced stuff. But most of it I personally think is corrupting the minds of people. The main-stream only talk about what will get them paid- Money, sex, drugs. No one really listens to underground stuff, so they do not get the experiance to see everything.

Now I am still staying with my story of me hating rap, but that is a personal opinion!

In rap music, they continually degrade women, referring to them as "b****es" and/or "Hos", and they always talk about problems they dealt with growing up in the hood or projects, use the "n" word in their lyrics, even on each other, if they don't talk about racist stuff like whites shooting blacks. And don't get me started on their videos. Same old repetitive, offensive stuff, and we have had enough.
