You do not pay an agent 15-20%, I'm sorry but industry standard is 10% and they do not get paid up front. They get paid when you do. Never pay an agent up front, they're a scam if they ask for money and you're going for principal work.

If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the US, but there are higher concentrations where the work is (Los Angeles, NY, IL, FL, GA etc.)

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. You can also see if your state has a film alliance. Sometimes they post audition information for projects filming locally. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying.

Get into acting classes, on camera workshops, etc. Build your resume as much as you can where you live now. Get into theatre, student films, indies, etc. Use Backstage to do that and actorsaccess if they have anything for you.

Good luck!

NEVER pay a Talent Agent to represent you.

Legitimate Talent Agents are entitled approximately
10% of the money actors makes from acting.

When the actor works, the agent will mail a check to the actor for whatever project the actor worked on.

lets get one thing straight, here - AGENTS NEVER MAKE YOU PAY UPFRONT!!! But, of course, they're still making a living out of this business, so make sure you read every contract that you have to sign. The percentage of cash they take from your pay is usually no more than 15-20%. This is subject to the percentage of work they put into finding you jobs, but it's still usually a fixed figure.... You should be able to use your bilingual skils to your advantage, as not many English kids can say that they are fluent in more than their native language! Good for you! Hope that helped! x x x

Your agent will take a fee on money made. The standard is 15 to 20 %

Managers will take more, and you don't need one until you are at a certain level anyway.

Most agents who rep non SAG or other unions will do a contract with 20%

You don't pay an agent. They take 10% out of whatever you make from a job you booked from them.

Standards in the business at present
run between 15 to 20 per cent -----
Management contracts however are
an entirely different animal -- they can
draw close to 40 per cent in some cases !!!

Make CAREFUL notice of any deals that
you sign -- know EXACTLY what the figures are
AND -- it is best to have a lawyer (preferably an
entertainment specialist) look the document over
VERY carefully and advise you accordingly !!!

You don't pay them anything up front; they get a percentage of what you earn. If an agent asks for money, they are not legitimate.
