No the Red Sox have better pitching than they did in 1978 and the Yankees bullpen is overworked. The Red Sox also have a better manager and front office.

I don't think so. In this day and age there is too much pressure to trade next years free agents and underperformers (like Bobby Abreu and Kyle Farnsworth) to restock for the future. Cashman will have no choice but to start replenishing the farm system with tradeable assets if they're still ten games back or more after a few more weeks.

You never know it could happen. The Yankees are traditionally a second half team. Boston usually has troubles in the second half. Although the pitching for Boston looks unbeatable anything can happen.

It all depends on their pitching. Right now it is nowhere near where it needs to be. With the options available at the moment it does not appear there's enough out there to help much but if anyone can find help it's Steinbrenner.

They would be last in the majors if every team spent $200 million on payroll. You Yankee fans know that, don't you.
If you added $160 mil to the Devil Rays, they would be world champs.
Add $130 to Oakland, can you spell d-y-n-a-s-t-y?
They won't make the playoffs, they really suck (by suck, I mean they have, by far, the worst win/$ spent ratio in the majors)

While I'm not making a guarantee i still think they have a good shot to make it if they have a great second half.
