They did in fact bring there 3rd and 4th string team. Why ? Who knows ? I mean we have all heard the reasons coach Bradley gives. He has to say something. I for one just can't buy into it, not sure that he does either. We should not of accepted the invitation if we weren't going to have the players available. That's my opinion anyway. We accepted to play before he was ever named coach.
It was nice to see guys like Ricardo Clark, Heath Pearce, Sasha and Charlie Davies play and play well. I hope we see more competition for spots on the 1st team.
The 3rd string team were tied 1-1 with arguably the best team in the tournament for 60 minutes. Than out played Paraguay, another team from last years World Cup finals. The big disappointment came with last nights game. Losing that game hurt.

The results were lousy and the US team's FIFA ranking will bound to drop, but what did anyone expect? You send your B team (with little or no prior international experience) to a hostile environment... Of course you're going to get beat down by the likes of Argentina. Then you have South American officials not too happy about the USA's B team (though they very much want the USA to return next time)
Hopefully some minor changes can be made so the USA can send a better team to Copa America in four years. Maybe have a break during the MLS season. Or schedule the Gold Cup months before or after Copa America.

I can't feel sorry for the U.S. finishing dead last in the tournament. I know the coach's excuse for sending a second or third string team is to gain experience, but I also think that by doing that is showing that they don't take this competition serious. To me that is a lack of respect to CONMEBOL and the other south american countries who take this competition serious. Remember the US was invited as a courtesy. They seemed careless about it. The starting players needed a vacation? Give me a break. The Gold Cup is insignificant compared to the Copa America. There are other countries in the region that would've loved to have the chance to compete in the tournament (ie Honduras, Canada, Panama, etc.) and would've put on a much better performance.
I wouldn't be surprised if CONMEBOL doesn't invite the US to the next Copa America.

They were pathetic...dead last again in a world class tournament with some importance. The truth is their so called "A" team would have done just as bad if not worse...if worse is even possible. The gold cup is a meaningless tournament with no competition and even in the gold cup the U.S "A" team struggled against Panama and had controversial victories over Canada and Mexico. It doesn't matter who they take to these to these international competitions. Their ugly style of play of getting cheap goals and defending your cheap goal till the end doesn't work in these big tournaments. The U.S can beat anyone in the U.S becasue they're ugly style of play is perfectly suited for playing on Football (NFL) fields where they can easily pack it in the back and defend lousy goals. This is why the U.S is terrible in every important competition outside the U.S and always will. For example, the U.S uses their so called dominance over Mexico as an excuse but I can't remember the U.S ever beating Mexico in Mexico on a real soccer field. Yeah, it's never happened just like the U.S putting on a respectible performace on the world stage...it never happened.
Edit: Gold Cup is in no way as important as Copa America. It's as if UCLA sat out all of their seniors during the ncaa tournament because they already won the more important PAC-10 title and wanted to give their freshman some experience...doesn't make sense does it. Copa America is the elite tournament of the America's, second only to the World Cup. The U.S once again has reminded the world why they should continue to laugh at your soccer and never take you serious.
Edit: How is chasing the ball around for 90 minutes every game and trying to win games by having 11 players behind the ball at all times supposed to give your players any experience. The problem with U.S soccer is that it does not promote any creativity. This is why the U.S only wins meaningless friendlies in the U.S, which is not deserving of any respect.

Largely expected; but now some young players, some of whom will surly be on the U.S. World Cup team in 2010, have some valuable international experience playing in a hostile environment. This was the whole idea of participating. The winner gets a ticket to the Confederations Cup which the U.S. already has by winning the Gold Cup.
I wouldn't worry too much about the FIFA ranking. Remember how high the U.S. was ranked right before our disappointing performance at the last World Cup? International experience for our young players is more important.

very poor whats this talk of it was there 3rd team?did i not see E Johnson BmcBride etc playing? these are some of ur best players?hmmm as far as i know the U.S.A where playing not U.S.A B'S OR C'S if u aint got enough pride in ur country for footbball and ur best players dont want to play then theres no need to try cover it up by saying it was 2nd team or 3rd team maybe the best players dont want to be embarrased by the way the U.S.A fans go on, i rememeber alexi lalas saying before the world cup they had a real chance to win it or at least get a semi-final. who do they think there kidding, MLS soccer is way below the level it takes to acheive success, look at Juan Pablo Angel playing for new york something or other, he looks like a genius with all these extremely poor players, there not even players there just good athletes, see the atitude "ur man" moor had, if somehow they can get this attitude around the pitch they would be much better, ask urself why were they the worst team in the worldcup? what excuse have u got for that one? eh? 5th team was it? whatever floats ur boat , actually i think the MLS is the best league in the world now u have david beckham and all that "lol" at all the fools
edited for Liz, yes ur right well spotted but it was suggested to me that i type BmcB and i wouldnt be contradicted that the USA fans know so little that the dont even know who plays, looking at a lot of other answers(should i say opinions) i can see that it is true, the majority of them know very little of whats going on and just listen to the shitetalk ya hear in the media, also i read that ur not being fooled by beckham's hair!, fair play to ya for seeing it as t really is

Maco M...did the US not boot Mexico from the World Cup? No, we have not beaten them only on our soil, and we did it where it counted most, in the World Cup. So stop being ignorant.
no_one_special did you mean you saw Brian McBride at Copa? that is strange...since he has RETIRED from International play after the last world cup! I understand not knowing this was our 3rd string team if you do not follow US soccer but don't be delusional and say you saw someone there that clearly would have been impossible.

USA sucks at soccer (no offense) especially in this Copa America. The U.S.A. is primarily football, basketball, baseball

Well, other than Casey Keller (Bradley's sacrificial lamb), we know who is not worthy of putting on a U.S. jersey. Freddy Adu should jump up about 16 spots for the national team pool. So, in that regard, THE U.S. team's performance was VERY EDUCATIONAL!

Ha Ha Ha. Must you ask? What else is there to say except I'd rather poke out my eyes with sharp sticks than watch them play again. I said before they were lacking and some people here were all "But they won the Gold Cup!" again proving my point that that means absolutely nothing in comparison. All that means is we can beat Mexico once in awhile.
