Well, Charles is the next-in-line to the throne, and with his mother, the Queen, now in her 80's, I'm sure he will have a chance to be King - he's been prepared for it throughout his life.
William will only become King if Charles abdicates, which I wouldn't of thought he'd do, at least not for a while yet
So to all you who think that the public has a say it in - you're wrong I'm afraid. Protocol, law & etiquette say it HAS to be Charles next.
I also think he's a very misunderstood guy - he does so much work for charlty and other good causes. OK, he has some pretty whacked-out ideas on stuff, or at least in the past, his ideas have been portrayed by the media as whacked-out, but given that most of it was to do with the environment, which is now the de facto topic of the milennium, was he really that crazy? I think not.
Charles will be King, like it or not. That doesn't mean that horse-faced old boot Camilla will be Queen though, her title is likely to be something like King's Consort.
Good luck to him I say.
God save the Queen !

Charles will be the next king;he has absolutely no intentions of stepping down and has made this quite clear. He takes Royal service seriously and will ascend the throne in due time. His reign has always been expected to be a short reign, due to the long life of his mother, the present monarch. It has been stated that Charles will pave the way for his son William,by making some modernizations ,and that William will continue the job.

Charles, then William. Charles, by law, is next in line. He cannot change this. The Queen cannot change this. He can't "refuse" the throne, the law gives it to him whether he wants it or not. He could abdicate, but I doubt he will, as it would require an Act of Parliament, which would bring the entire role of the monarchy into debate in Parliament. He has also been raised for the role since birth, and IMO will make an excellent King with Camilla by his side as Queen.

Our rightful future King is Charles,William will follow, there may be a problem with William, the Act Of Succession states that a catholic cannot become king or queen.William and Harry's mother Diana was a fervent catholic as is all her family, she "turned" to marry Charles.Rumour has it that after the Church of England Christening,a Catholic one was performed on both children.

I am with DeeEm
William would make a much better king than his father due to what has been done in the past with Charles and his new Wife. No-one like that should be king/queen in my opinion.
