Maybe a '77 repeat, but with A-Rod out, maybe no.
But from thi oint, A big no-no for the Yankees.
And Many people have asked this question, so yeah, and many say no way for the yankees.

No. The Red Sox and Tigers currently lead the A.L. East and Wild Card races, respectively. Both teams will most likely play well over .500 the rest of the year, but let's say for the sake of this example that one of these teams slumps a bit.
Right now, at roughly the halfway point of the season, the Red Sox are in first in the A.L. East with a 53-31 record. Toronto is just ahead of the Yankees by percentage points at 41-43, and New York is 40-42.
Even if the Sox were to play only .500 ball the rest of the year, they would finish at 92-70. In order for the Yankees to finish with at least that record, they have to go 52-28 the rest of the way, i.e. have a .650 winning percentage for half a season. That is very difficult to do--not one team in baseball has a .650 winning percentage right now.
They also won't win the wild card. Right now the Tigers lead that race at 49-34. If they were to go about .500 (40-39) they'd finish with 89 wins. The Yankees would have to go
49-31 to catch up. That would be a bit easier than 52-28, but it would still be difficult. Plus, you have to consider the Mariners, A's, Twins, and Blue Jays, all of whom are between the Yankees and Tigers in the wild card race.
A lot of people will say "Remember 1978!", but there is something very important to understand about that. In 1978, 2 days out of 5 the Yankees started either Ron Guidry or Ed Figueroa. In 2007, they will not. Yes, they have Clemens, one of the greatest pitchers of all time, but he so far has not been the savior they expected him to be.
I guess you can't say they have no chance until they've been mathematically eliminated, but at this point, I would say that there is a 99% chance that the Yankees will not make the playoffs.

i hear NOs but i dont see any good reasons. Team Chemistry ARod out for a week. come on
i know everyone hates the yankees, but I am a yankees supporter, so i still have to hope for the best
the best, this year, is a Wild Card spot. Boston has the division clinched. either Detroit or Cleveland wins the division (probably Detroit) and i think cleveland has a meltdown
cleveland hasnt been a postseason team since 1997 and every year they have come close since then collapsed in august. the yankees are traditionally a second half team, and they start the season after the AllStar Break with their easiest 18 games (a mix of the royals, d-rays, and rangers i think)
so yes i feel they can make the playoffs!!!!

And for the last time, N O C H A N C E.
Torre will be gone after the All Star Break, and they will start cleaning house. The team has a bunch of talent, but lack any sort of chemistry. That's what happens when you sign a bunch of high dollars guys and you just assume they will all play well together. The Yankees stand ZERO chance of making the playoffs this year. Maybe next year or maybe five years.

As much as I despite NY since their third of 4 titles in 1999, I'm goin' out on a limb & predicting that they still could. Granite, they ain't w/n reach of a div. title or the wilde card, but I've seen them quite often play lousy in the 1st ½ of the season, & then in the next half, boom, its rally thyme. I've seen Boston's playoff push evapor8 in their demoralising series against the Yanks I think last season & they ended up losing more games then the Blue J's.
I'd b incredibly pleased 2 c if New York's post-season appearance streak finally gets disrupted this fall if the Sox remain consistant & the Yankees still can't separ8 themselves from Toronto, T.B. & Baltimore in the AL East standings...
But it's still 2 damn soon 2 tell. Let's talk again in L8 August.

They won't make it because they have no chemistry. Without any chemistry you will never be a good team.
And to support other peoples points the Yankees will need at least 95 wins for the division and maybe 90 at the least for the wild card.

They have put themselves in a huge hole but if any team in MLB can do it, the Yankees would be the team. You know Steinbrenner will not roll over and will do anything possible to get them to the playoffs. I would still give them a shot at the playoffs.

For only the 10th BILLION time; the answer is still a resounding:
NO!
Even with the firing of joe torre 1 game after the ASB, and some major trades, the yankees bad karma is catching up to them and will bite them in the rear!

i think they will make the playoffs but only as a wild card team. they can turn there season around from now until the end of the season but i dont think that they will be able to beat the red sox so they won win there division. they will however be able to make the wild card because they are good enough.

Very unlikely. They are 40-42 currently. It is going to take at least 95 wins to get the Wild Card so that means they have to go 55-25 for the second half. As I said, very unlikely.
