The only place I can see the fluid is on the battery and the terminals. It's a bright red, and somewhat viscous. The car is a 1991 Honda CRX, and the fluid has just recently appeared on it.

If you had your battery changed lately or if you have a relatively new car the installer of the battery coated the terminals with a protective coating ( in your case red) to protect both the terminals and cable ends from oxidizing and forming the usual green / yellow crusty buildup. Any auto parts store sells this product nowadays. It's called battery terminal protector.

Hope I answered your question. Believe me, he (the installer) did you a kind favor. Most people would not have done this.

the red colored stuff on your battery terminals is an anti corrosion treatment that can be purchased at any auto parts store, walmart, target, kmart, etc....

merely there to prevent the white looking corrosion build up that also will eat your terminals and prevent a good connection.

the only red fluid in a car is trans. fluid. how that would get on your battery is beyond me unless the cap is missing from reservoir and it is getting all over everything.
