I started a business I am good at and can beat the prices offered by my competition because he's a greedy son of a *****. He is a civic leader though no one cares for him. He is taking flyers and pamphlets down that my staff has put up in public areas, including some he owns. He is spreading gossip and has sought legal action prohibiting legal work on some of these properties. In short, he is an asshole. I am trying to get my business off the ground and this man has a vendetta. Are there any legal recourses against him or resources to raise capital in what may be a legal right to work issue?

If you can prove he's been spreading lies then you have solid grounds for a slander / libel lawsuit.

You can't do anything about the fliers. If you put up a billboard and it's damaged you can go after them for vandalism. Look into advertising avenues that don't involve easy to remove fliers.

I made a mistake of opening a music store near where a bigger music store was. They could buy up all the wholesale specials and I got squat and the owner was a leader in the Chamber of Commerce.
