Powerful chemicals are released in the brain when people are in romantic love. The effect is similar to some illegal drugs (i.e. cocaine), and people become obsessed and addicted to the feeling of lust.

Also, the "reward center" of the brain causes us to seek out pleasurable experiences through activities that we have gotten that pleasure from in the past, and is responsible for addictive behaviour - not necessarily negative behaviour, but obsessive nonetheless.

I think it is a control issue.

The insecurity of not being comfortable with yourself, not wanting others to know the real you. And maybe you not knowing yourself either.

Then compounding life with making it your way to the point of shutting out reason almost to the point of panic hence the obsession.
