Thompson rented a 1990 Red Ford Pick-up truck to drive through the small rural county Sevier, TN to campaign.
"Here is Michelle Cottle describing a Thompson campaign event a couple of years later when he was running for reelection:
Seated in the audience is a childhood friend of mine....My friend stands talking with her colleagues as the senator is driven away by a blond, all-American staffer. A few minutes later, my friend gets into her car to head home. As she pulls up to the stop sign at the parking lot exit, rolling up to the intersection is Senator Thompson, now behind the wheel of a sweet silver luxury sedan. He gives my friend a slight nod as he drives past. Turning onto the main road, my friend passes the school's small, side parking area. Lo and behold: There sits the abandoned red pickup, along with the all-American staffer.
Basically, he just drove the thing the final few hundred feet before each campaign event, and then ditched it for something nicer"

You can find the story in any TN paper or the Wasington Monthly.
And the reason I posted this is to show the people that Fred Thompson the actor-lawyer-lobbyist-partime Senator is not worthy to be President.

rented and had the additional prop of a can of tobaccky on the seat. What a snow job that was.
The man not only is an actor, he has been a lobbyist since 1975 with a break for the time he spent in the Senate. As soon as he left Congress, back to the lobby merry go round and we are supposed to trust him? Please. He lobbied for pharmaceutical companies, the same ones that gouge us and helped to engineer that travesty of a prescription drug bill that denies the government the ability to negotiate prices. This happened in this millenia, since people are hung up on a story that is supposedly 10 years old.
1994: Thompson Opposed Criminalizing Abortion.
1996: Thompson Supported Public Financing of Abortions
Thompson voted for the 2002 Andean Trade Bill which extended duty-free status to certain products from Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru which has now proven to be detrimental to the textile industry in S.C.
In addition
Thompson worked for Equitas, a London company lobbying Congress to limit liability for asbestos-related illnesses-a substance that ironically might be a contributing factor to the deteriorating respiratory health of the estimated 43,000 workers who helped with clean up after 9/11
He is no great conservative hope, he is a moderate and his voting record while in the Senate proves it. If he is acting as if he is their hope, that is all it is- an act by a great actor. He even played President a couple of times. We don't need an actor, we need a real President.

Thompson is doing what he continuously did as a senator.... wait and wait and wait till its too previous via do something. If he's going to be the subsequent president then he extra beneficial initiate campaigning and debating... collectively as he waits the GOP donors are sending their funds to incredibly sturdy applicants. those donors is in basic terms no longer spending so a lot extra on yet another candidate. you could desire to compete along with your huge-unfold warring parties with funds... then in case you win the huge-unfold you extra beneficial nevertheless have funds to conflict the different celebration's candidate. The longer you wait the donations get smaller and smaller. This has been a topic with Thompson... he's very sluggish. he's sensible yet sluggish and it incredibly isn't any longer a time to be sluggish.

Political candidates are SUPPOSED to use red, white and blue pickups with stars painted on them! All of our politicians wrap themselves in the flag because it sells well to an public that is incapable of distinguishing between style and substance.

Hey, it's a photo-op. I doubt he's the first politician to do something like that.
Heck, your President used the USS Abraham Lincoln and a fighter plane for one a few years back. Ol' Freddie's truck thing is small potatoes compared to that.

It's pretty funny that his supporters cite Thompson's "authenticity" as his biggest asset.
How authentic is it to wear $2,000 suits and ride in a limo while courting your lobbying clients and then switch into blue jeans and hop in a rented pick-up for campaign appearances.
And his "Law and Order" credentials go down the tubes when he leads the fund raising to pay for Scooter "Perjurer" Libby's fines.

You people tried to demonize Ronald Reagan in the same manner before the 1980 presidential race. How did that work out?

Well...considering your story over ten years old, and is passed on from friend to friend, I'm not buying it. I'll take my news stories from legit sources.
I'm with Fred in '08!
